So it's almost my girlfriends birthday and I booked two tickets to Barcelona for a long weekend as a surprise. But, I need to book the hotel aswell ofcourse. The problem is that I don't have any clue which hotel to book, because there are so many. I think the biggest problem is that I don't know at which location I should book the hotel....near the beach, near Sagrade Famillia, or maybe it doesn't really matter since you can reach all important points with publilc transport. Or is it beter to book a hotel outside the centre?I don't know Sad

Maybe someone lives or went to Barcelona and advise me on this?

Ok, maybe someone has a more personal advice, but I usally use booking.com and have never been disappointed by the ratings.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Barcelona´s main attractions are pretty close and its easy to use the metro if you tire of walking. If only for a weekend you should get a hotel in the center of things (dont get a hotel directly on the Rambla tho).

I always use Tripadvisor.com before going anywhere and can only recommend it.

Remember to eat a lot of tapas and have a nice vacation! (if you like football, then remember they also have RCD Espanyol in town and tickets are really not that hard to get a hold of).

There are two kinds of people I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.

What the men said Very Happy. I've been there three times, and all you have to do is book the hotel that you fancy the most in terms of price/features, since they're all basically the same. Razz

Once you're there, you can easily use public transport to move (even though it's doable on foot too, unless you pick a place that is far from the centre). Just don't bring you car, because it's a nightmare, I can guarantee you that xD

I would recommend airbnb instead of a hotel. It's interesting to stay in someones house (I usually rent a private room, but in a shared apartment) because the locals can always give you better and more personalized information than hotels or hostels... and it is also cheaper.

About the neighbourhood, I would recommend Gracia, as it is full of great restaurants, which is convenient to have nearby, and still very easy to get to the places of interest by metro (buy the 10 rides ticket at the airport or at any metro station, its the best option). A big advantage there is that it isn't packed with tourists. Sagrada familia is walking distance, but I find it more convenient to just take the metro everywhere...

My last stay was near Metro Joanic, which gives access to the beach (yellow line) without having to make a connection. Another neighbourhood I would recommend is El Born, which is just beautiful and also full of great restaurants and bars.

Also nake sure you do a free walking tour (just google) for some history and general view of the city, and don't miss Parque Guell as it is simply awesome. (If you have more time go to Parque del Labyrint as well, I really enjoyed it)

Haha, thanks for all the advice. Tripadvisor came in really handy! We are staying in Hotel Sagrade Famlia Very Happy Managed to book on the official site for a very good price! I e-mailed them that they are not the cheapest, while their website claims to be. So they offered me a very cheap price instead Smile It's like a 200M walk from Sagrade Familia, a train connection from the airport to the hotel and a metro like 2 blocks away.

So at the moment I have a list what I/we want too see:

Ramblas
Font Màgica Montjuïc
Beach
Sagrade Famlia
Park Guell
