I'm having this annoying problem at my mothers. She has Comcast. I know the entire world hates them but I'm not sure it's their problem (yet).
We have 4 laptops and a few phones and the connection will ALWAYS work wirelessly on the phones but not the laptops. It generally works for a few minutes on a laptop but then it stops for anywhere up to an hour.
I tried disconnecting all other wireless devices, but that didn't help. I reset the thing and it's settings multiple times but it still occurs. A Comcast guy came out and said nothing was wrong.
Is there anything else I should be doing to determine what the issue is? If it was a wireless/modem issue, why do the phones work 100% of the time?
change the wireless channel in the router settings to something non-default (for example if its on 10, change to 3 or something).
you could also download some wireless sniffer application and scan the surroundings to see what wireless signals are on what channel, then pick a channel that nobody uses.
if that doesnt work, worst case get a cheap usb or pcmcia wireless network card and try it.
did they atleast reimburse your parents for the weeks it didnt work properly?
here in germany once after moving to a new address the telekom fucked up and couldnt provide me with internet for a month,
i complained and they gave me 3 months for free
