It took forever and it doesn't really change all that much but the 1.1 patch has been released.

0.0
They spent a year and a half working on a patch. Razz The game's long forgotten and btw the 1.0v worked fine with no noticeable bugs.

For me it was unplayable because of a bug that has been fixed now:
Quote:

The movement keys are remapped to the arrow keys, and you can now lean out from cover.

I wish they would have released this patch a year earlier. Before I played the 360 version.
Well, now I'm looking forward to the Blacksite patch that will let the game start up on my PC. Surprised

but meh, the movie will be dumb as shit, sure, but one thing u cant deny about his movies... theyre usually fun as hell to watch... and i can be VERY forgiving of a movies script, if the action is well done and the pacing is good, so yeah... shit... bring it on i reckon.

i just hope he doesnt fucking put nicholas cage in it Sad

cage was alright in.. a few movies. i don't remember their names, but i'm sure of it Razz
he's got a sort of innocent puppy look that makes him likable even if the movie is crap, so leave nicholas aloneeee!

Whoa, I've been here since at least September 2007? (Found my own post several pages back.) don't remember anything from then, barely remember much about the game itself actually, the "Woo shop"? must have been some extra menu in the game from which to buy unlockable extras?

EDIT: Whoa was the wrong way to begin a statement as it's to close to the term Woo.

Well now, reading ones own early post history is quite a weird experience. 11 years later and the forum is still here, as am I though not quite as active but I still post a bit every day.

As for the other part well I have used that particular emote a bit but not very frequently. I think I'm using them a bit too much actually to enhance the meaning of the post since text on it's own is hard to discern as of any particular mood at least in my own experience. Smile

And what the hell happened to Hong Kong blood-opera games anyway, feels like it would have been a good genre of action shooters but for now I can only think of this and the upcoming overhead shooter from was it the Hotline devs?

And a old HL1 mod from way back. Very Happy
(Or what the genre is called, Sleeping Dogs could perhaps be another example in a way but it's more martial arts focused really.)

Well I guess it's similar to Ninjas, they had a popularity period and then disappeared entirely.
(80's and early 90's in particular, though I guess if zombies can surge in popularity again then maybe other genres could too.)

EDIT: Matrix I guess, bullet time became a staple and used in all the FPS games of the early 2000's and beyond.

Hah yeah I don't think it would hold up well if I tried replaying the game, early UE3 too as I remember so a very particular shade of muted brown color throughout the game.

EDIT: Not quite actually after a quick re-check but still has that foggy hazy look early Unreal Engine 3 games tended to have, bloom effect perhaps?

You could say the first FEAR game (the only FEAR game?) also fits somewhere in there. Maybe a mix between "blood opera" and "Japanese horror".

It does follow the formula pretty closely now that you mention it, very free flowing combat with a high focus on mobility and of course dual wielding and the chaotic and hectic action since the AI works really well with the level design and clever scripting and the overall destruction caused during firefights sending debris everywhere.

As I remember it was also one of the first games using parallax mapping to convey craters on concrete and certain other surfaces giving the illusion of a nearly destructive environment.

Sequels mixed in some more sci-fi and mecha elements though but the first game kept things a bit more grounded though you did get some more horror and science elements later in the game such from the spike rifle to the railgun and those cloaked jumpy fuckers. Razz
(And Alma I guess and the fear of little children and the sequel dialing it up a bit ha ha.)

Monolith had some entertaining titles back in the day, Blood 2 was a bit of a dud though but they did alright though now they're doing whatever WB Games want them to do and that seems to be more Lord of the Rings games.

Blood, NOLF and SHOGO would be nice to see returned along with Condemned but I think several of these were also held up by legal rights and ownership issues and backpedaling publishers.
(From the sounds of it NOLF was just ready to go for a re-released updated version fixing several issues with the original and then the publisher just stops the entire thing after the devs had spent a lot of time clearing up the ownership issues which from the sounds of things was a complete mess.)

I guess there's no chance of these things expiring after X amount of years either, of course it can't be that easy now can it? Ha ha.

EDIT: But I suppose if movies and the like had their gold, silver and bronze era in the 1900's to 2000's it's time for video games too now, we kinda skipped a few steps after gold and silver though or somewhere around there and now here we are, the dark era.

But that's a mess in a class of it's own though I can't help but be a bit curious how it will all turn out.

EDIT:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midway_Games

Well what do you know, speaking of Warner and it seems they're the ones who bought out most of Midway's assets when they crashed. Not the best time for this type of game though outside of perhaps some publisher trying for a online experience.

Or indie, that's always a possibility I suppose, less budget but also less restrictions and meddling.

The game came back via GOG somehow.
https://www.gog.com/game/stranglehold

See Unreal Engine 3 in all it's early brown bloom glory. Very Happy
Action was fairly solid though not that I can remember fuck all besides pew-pew dove-dove and for the time some pretty "ohhh" like destructive physics.

Obligatory Chinese Teahouse getting totally fucked although it might have been a restaurant or other stuff long as it has the also equally obligatory priceless porcelain vases that never ever survive these scenes.

Anyways it came back and I have no idea how the PC port held up but it's Unreal Engine 3 and a early version and it means it's all brown tinted and bloom everywhere.
(Lightmass really did a ton for that once some type of indirect lighting support was in.)

EDIT: Also I am curious who ever decided a good idea would be to throw yourself out of cover stiff sideways firing guns akimbo and being able to not only not get hit but actually have any sort of accuracy at all for hitting the actual target.
(Suddenly it makes sense those vases never really lasted long huh.)

EDIT: Rule of cool though besides it probably just picked up from the martial movies where two incredibly unrealistically sexy swordsmen decide to square off and the best place to do it is on the walls and pillars of the nearest probably kinda important holy temple or political palace of some renown.

EDIT: And the villain HAS NO BALLS!
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EunuchsAreEvil
(Well it could have been a woman.)

Phew.

Anyway pew-pew and white doves of peacefulness...during a shootout. Because reasons. Razz
