If you don't disable them that's a detection meter as I remember.
(That or if it's not a enforcer it's probably the objectives marker for some side mission or activity, I had the HUD disabled for my playthrough.)

ffs. The advantage to making mirrors edge open world would be that you can pick a direciton and run right? Giving you freedom to enjoy the freerunning while observing the geometry to create a path to run to your objective. Apparently that's not what the devs of this thought because the entire world is filled with random corridors, rooftops and deadends. You will be running along a direction and all of a sudden the world ends and your life wtf. Then you enable the magic derp line that leads you to your destination and it turns out you had to take a door hidden in a corner 2 blocks away to reach the rest of the city. Fucking retarded.

It's all the more annoying because the rest of the game is pretty damn good but the open world design just kills it. Bleh.

As far as I remember this is one of those games that does that "cool" (annoying) thing of sending you straight into the game which works on console but on PC you'll have to reach the first real checkpoint (I tried not to but that just makes you redo everything.) and then you can exit out of the game (Or set some of the options.) and then start the game and it'll be at the actual menu screen where you can set all graphics settings and whatnot. Smile

And yes as the above post mentioned the various districts in the city are mainly all connected via one single narrow path so while each district is fairly open the way to travel between them is usually the same which the developers use to block off access until you earn certain upgrades though the later districts like the rich part of town near the waterside do look pretty stunning. Very Happy
(But you still do minor side quests for minor rewards or gather collectibles when not doing the actual story content.)

I have same specs as you and the beta's performance was awful here too on Win7, but full version (CPY) runs very smooth on ultra - 60 fps with vsync on with rare dips below.

From my understanding of these things there's "limitations" in Windows 7 that Microsoft never really fixed even if they partially improved the DX11 support via the (optional.) platform update for it.

It under-performs in particular in windowed and borderless mode as it lacks or perhaps just performs poorly with the various techniques that greatly benefit these display modes including flip mode and flip queues and other stuff that came in later WDDM revisions and updates to dxgi.

Frostbite also takes advantage of D3D11.1 if available since at least Battlefield 4 which needs Windows 8 or newer and it seems to further improve performance a little bit if supported.

Haha, as JB said, it's the default options' fault, as they have all the markers enabled, along with floating red trails to help the blind people. Thankfully everything can be turned off, which is always a godsend. Smile

such an empty game, with boring story and boring characters, at least the gameplay is good with the ambient soundtrack in the background but playing it in long sessions it gets boring really fast, also the story is very short.

the fuck has dice been doing all these years on it and why do a reboot in the first place if you dont want to improve from the first game. the same thing is happening at hollywood with the bigest flop being ben hur

Well her head proportions are a bit more believable now at least though something feels "off" with the new design and it's not just the derpy expression.
(And your rival from the original game/timeline is now a boy instead of a girl...)

Completed.

I have to say that the level design was fantastic, different zones, different atmosphere, you can snap a screen at every corner, that's how good it looks ( if one is into futuristic/minimalistic design ).

Soundtrack was bomb, Solar Fields did a top job with this again, uptempo sounds at the right moment and at the other pole, sweet lounge music for the atmosphere.

Gameplay, based on mood, really, when i was in the mood to play, most of the moves were flowing, otherwise i would tumble, or press the wrong button and i would ruin the flow. Being open world, you can explore and create your own paths ( contrary of someone said a few posts back ). Turn off the ghostly Faith and you get a proper challenge finding the right path.

Combat was interesting enough, even though I didn't care about fighting as I was into running, what I didn't like was the fact that in some missions, I was being forced to fight.

Story, owell, I wasn't that impressed about it, clearly leaves room for more. Can't really describe it w/out spoilers here.

Took me a while, but I finished it too, the Mirror's Edge Cpylyst edition. Quite surprisingly (or not), the game ended up being..pretty good all things considered. Everything Went Better Than Expected
It's a sequel that despite some changes, streamlining here and there and the open world (ish - since it's more like a series of connected hubs) design, doesn't murder the original formula, but maintains the same approach applied to a bigger playground to explore. (Pretty much I echo what Danyutz said Razz).

I enjoyed the first one a lot back in the day, and was afraid the Ubi-like thing with dozens of side businesses could ruin everything, but since they're actually all optional (Mafia 3, I'm looking at you Mad Laughing), they're not a chore and the pleasant city design does the rest. I obviously skipped great part of the trials and item collecting for completionists, but did all the side missions, most of the diversions and the fun gridnode ones which are actually necessary to unlock the needed fast travel. The scary upgrade system thankfully is a "lite" one, since it doesn't take long until you unlock all the movements (which is good) and you get enough XP to become a master Jean-Claude kickboxer early in the game.

It's still an easy experience overall though, and I strongly recommend disabling the full-derp red runner helps completely, it enhances the game immensely, at least during the main missions. With the more challenging time trials and diversions on the other hand the 'classic' vision is alright, like a soft reference without being too obvious. (There's still the marker which never goes away though: the only way is to go with the UI.drawEnable 0 on the console - but alas that also disables all the rest).

As for the combat, it's undoubtedly awkward and almost comical at times, with the characters dropping like mannequins after a Bud Spencer's punch xD, and it's never really challenging (*shakes fist*) but overall it has a simplistic charm, especially after you get 'tougher' enemies and unlock dynamic moves to take advantage of the environment.

The presentation is possibly the highlight here. Stunning vistas, total modern architecture porn wrapped in an overdose of global illumination and sound effects forming a rock-solid combo. You can breathe the crispy virtual air, assuming that you also bump the resolution scale up by a few notches to avoid the ugly vaseline default AA (the frosty game is fairly well optimized, I managed to keep 60fps on Ultra/1080p with my vintage rig).

The problem as per tradition is when it comes to the writing, damn horrible in the first game, and a sad trombone here as well..but still an improvement over Rhianna Pratchett's Cool Face
Generic characters, a "twist" that you could instantly predict and dat.bloody.cliffhanger for a hypothetical third game (well, assuming that there will be one). At least the amount of cringe is relatively low, which is positive.
Despite the flaws, I'd say it's easily a 7,5/10 game for me and definitely recommended to whoever enjoyed the first one.

It's a shame the game doesn't support VR, it could potentially be one of the most immersive (read: puke-worthy) experiences out there. Jumping from inhumane heights and landing on the giant squishy pillows, the high octane swinging, rolling and dat tightrope walking.. for the acrophobics!

Just finished this and I have to say, it was much much better than most reviews would make you think. The gameplay was simply great, very fun, satisfying and rewarding when it didn't involve combat, which for the most part was just there (I think removing gun use was a good idea though), but the parkour which amounted to like 90% of it more than made up for the lacking combat. Also, I find he open world was actually pretty well done, even if the distribution of "activities" wasn't up to it, good thing most of them weren't mandatory so I just kept doing activities related to running in optimal ways in order to make it in time or get 3 stars. I felt the more I played the game and the more I opened up the world map the better it got. I found myself almost never fast traveling because of how fun it was to just "run" to your marker.

Story wise was as bland as the first one so for anyone who needs a compelling story, you can stay away. Graphics were simply stunning, gorgeous, and whatever beauty related word you can find. The Frostbite engine really shines here.

Anyway, a good game overall IMO, and still the best parkour mechanics for any videogame. I hope a sequel is made and that they iterate and improve of it (I think it has a lot of room for it in some departments).
