Been playing for 10'ish hours. I really like the gameplay mechanics, very similar to the old Fallouts.. world reminds me of STALKER.

The bad part is the writing. Its like it's written by a 15 year old most of the time which really hurts immersion and any interest in story or characters. The need to throw in current things like Crypto currency in quests is also lazy and stupid since it doesn't even make sense for this time period or world.

It's just a reference to him though, i don't mind that too much. He's not even named Mike Tyson. And sure, boxing makes sense.

In the crypto currency quest people are given buttons and pine cones as a digital currency, that in itself does not make much sense. Its lazy and really dumb writing with absolutely zero effort.

The dude doing the writing should have read some good books to inspire him before he started writing, Roadside Picnic etc.. you get the feeling everything in his imagination is 1) Fallout 2) Boring every day stuff that he happened to run into on a forum that day so he decided to include it in the writing 3) meta-jokes, joking about the RPG stats in the game for example.

The writing is very smart and satirical for our time just like Fallout 2's. The problem is that the writing is full of obscure soviet references.

no, it's pretty damn dumb.. i understand he wants to take a jab at e.g crypto currency, but he needs to understand what he's writing about if he's gonna do that.

I can't wash off the feeling that its someone bored out of his fucking mind writing this stuff.. its like sometimes he just includes stuff he happened to run into earlier on a forum that day. The soviet references hasn't been very obscure for me so far.

Out of 50 NPC's you meet perhaps 3-4 has a quest and anything intelligent to say, kind of tiresome.

Seen some screenshots via the Codex who did a not-so-serious playthrough of the game though from the screenshots picked that sounds a bit generous unless it's severely suffering from a case of lost in translation though overall it looked like it had potential but some of the writing got kinda strange.

Not really comparable but I doubt anything can dethrone the currency explanation in Ghost Recon Breakpoint being crypto based as characters explain how you pick USB's or phones and other digital assets for it.

So what's one of the most common locations to find these other than enemy bodies?
Ancient 100's of years old viking lookalike burial sites and chests in these having a few hundred digi-coins.

EDIT: Think Fallout 2 had it's little swings as well but mostly due to all the jokes and references compared to the first game where it's more subdued other than random encounters and certain dialog choices.

i think its partially lost in translation + really shitty writing / zero fucks are given.

here's an example of the writing i just came across when clicking on a NPC..;

Before you stands a clean shaven man, nervously playing with a cigarette in his hand.

* Amazing! Can i ask you something else?
* Leave

you know its good when it starts with "can i ask you something else" and you haven't talked to him Laughing

Yeah, been reading up on some of the Wuxia games which while generally well regarded the English localization and release is abandoned, poorly done and at places Google auto translated if even that plus for the other game that was "translated" the localization from the first game was re-used over several parts of the non story script which is quite something even beyond the general localization issues from typographical errors and some of the original dialogue often having to be altered and risking being less well preserved or changing it's meaning.

Though the images I've seen also range from walls of text to random short bits and some really odd replies from the player character and some of the humor is a bit off though it could just be me. Very Happy

Might be on to something about boredom going by the amount of text as some conversations just keep going for a pretty extensive amount of lines for the conversation though I don't know what the full script size is but something like a short novel isn't an easy thing to write up especially trying to keep it all consistent and engaging and also focused on from the writers side so it doesn't fall apart or anything or how to say.

Probably overall a pretty good effort though but now and then it cracks a bit going by at least the screenshots and sudden changes and shifts in tone and mood plus how some parts might have gotten translated over to English and a few misses here and there though it's far from the worst I've seen.
(Cuts to script content, creative liberties taken by the translator, lack of a proofreader and quality check before finalization and more or just straight up nearly immediately obvious it got auto translated.)

At least with a lengthy script going there shouldn't be any attempts for full voice acting and the horrors that can cause, some early PSX titles and no fucks given and there's some fun examples there though sometimes smaller studios do also try and it's down to budget and time more than disregard for the result itself or actively sabotaging it.
(Some titles had that, dev tried to get the English VO's rejected but it got shipped anyway.)

EDIT: The game itself seems to have several good points too but with some flaws and shortcomings though it seems like it can be pretty good overall when it's all coming together though I need to read up a bit more than Codexer impressions and screenshots likely focusing on some of the rougher parts of the game hah.
(Good source of info as it can be it can also be a *bit* biased and skewed. Very Happy )

Don't worry, add at least 6 months of bug fixing and feature additions so it will became a proper stand-alone Laughing

Yeah, this was one of the reasons I was waiting before I start playing the first one Laughing.

Is everything fixed now?

Or at least is it fully playable without any game breaking bugs?

I wonder if this always planned as a standalone or they just thought no one would pay another $15 for it as DLC.

Have I seen what the game has to offer if I'm halfway through Krasnoznamenny? I've done the factory and the drunken lair, not the bunker. I feel like I'm playing a poor version of the original Fallout games. Does it get better later on?

it's a really overrated game. you can tell the writing is done by someone who's perhaps 17-20 years old + some is probably lost in translation, which doesn't make it better.

There was really nothing that drew me in, just way too generic and very, very poorly written. I played perhaps 50% then i just gave up..

Yeah I gave up. I like it, but it's boring. Maybe one day some studio will make a proper isometric Fallout. A man can only hope.

I thought it was a pretty ok game. But compared to Wasteland 3, the difference in quality is very apparent, espécially the writing. Even with all its bugs, Wasteland 3 was a fun, albeit rather short, ride. Atom RPG really started to drag after a while.

Part of the problem with the writing is that it's basically the Fallout 2 pop culture galore style, but shifted to Russia.

Even with a perfect translation, most of the references and humour are going to be lost on anyone who didn't grow up in the iron curtain.

In all honesty, as much as I do love Fallout 2, I was never a huge fan of the pop culture galore style. The first Fallout struck a far better balance humour and writing wise.

Same, it was also what made me cringe in Wasteland 3 everytime the character 'Faran Brygo' was mentioned Razz
