Started watching this today, and I'm fuckin hooked! Smile These 'period' drama's aren't usually my cup of tea, but by God is it good. Only the first 2 episodes here so far in UK, but I want them all, lol!!

I was watching, and thought, that guy reminds me of Richard Harris (one of my heroes), and low and behold, it is his son that is in this, spitting image is Jared, mannerisms, everything.

Cant wait for next ep.

Great stuff

Just finished devouring the inventory of canned meat, it was pretty tasty all things considered. The quality acting really is the true protagonist of the ice lands, followed by the suspenseful atmosphere and measured pacing (required to properly build up the tension).
The show was more unsettling than terrifying, the beast on steroids sponsored by CocaCola was for me a bit of a letdown and another layer of genuine mystery perhaps would have made the show even more interesting, but the result is still a remarkable one - also considering the level reached in terms of "horror drama" by other contemporary AMCian soaps.
It's something grim that manages to stand out from the usual, doesn't resort on jumpy hollyboo tricks but rather focuses on psychological (and physical) horrors, and that alone makes it worth a watch in my opinion. *Prepares fava beans and a nice chianti* Dude Happy

Finished this in three nights. What a treat! One of the best television series you can watch, at least in this 10 episode format. I think the format benefits well-scripted stuff like this or Godless. More dramatic mature stuff, please!

Totally agree with you. Started watching it 5 days ago, and just couldn't stop. A real treat.

yep, the problem was it being completely unnecessary the show would have been rock solid without it.

^ Kind of like the movie Ravenous (1999).
No creature necessary.

That movie is a fucking B masterpiece! "If you die first, I am definitely going to eat you, but the question is, if I die, what are you going to do?"

The next iteration, based on an idea by Borenstein, will be set during World War II and center on an uncanny specter that menaces a Japanese-American community from its home in Southern California to the internment camps to the war in the Pacific. Woo and Borenstein take over from Soo Hugh and David Kajganich, who served as co-showrunners on season one.

The first season of The Terror was inspired by a true story about the Royal Navy’s perilous voyage in 1847 while attempting to discover the Northwest Passage. Frozen, isolated and stuck at the end of the earth, season one highlighted all that can go wrong when a group of men, desperate to survive, struggle not only with the elements but with each other.

Cool. So it will be an anthology series along the lines of American Horror, ie. every season is a unique setting with a unique story.

The premise sounds nice. If it will have the same gritty and murky atmosphere I'll be happy.

Quote:
"Individuals of Japanese decent encountering a cultural monster during the Japanese interment camps of WW2. "

The next iteration, co-created and executive-produced by Alexander Woo (True Blood) and Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla), will be set during World War II and center on an uncanny specter that menaces a Japanese-American community from its home in Southern California to the internment camps to the war in the Pacific. The second season will also once again be executive-produced by legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott.

“This season of The Terror uses as its setting one of the darkest, most horrific moments in our nation’s history. The Japanese-American internment is a blemish on the nation’s conscience — and one with dire resonance to current events. I’m thrilled that AMC is giving us the chance to use that darkness as the inspiration for what I hope will be a trenchant, terrifying season of TV.”

Still waiting for August 12th.

Yeah, I hope the focus will be put on a believable sense of dread without too many supernatural bears, ancient wraiths or mutant lizards. Nothing can be as disturbing as the deviant human psyche, and the first season is a testament to that. Razz

Just watched the first season, took me 3 days of binge watching Very Happy

I really enjoyed it, very memorable. I was never scared, though. I imagine it could have been better if it was a fictionalised retelling of the real story it is based on OR if they had some psychological horror moments with people going paranoid and berserk, alluding to a curse hunting the crew but it could also be the lead poisoning! (I like it when a show/movie refuses to confirm the supernatural elements and everything *could* be explained logically, makes it more eerie and mysterious, you can also show gruesome monsters but allude to them possibly being hallucinations of a crazed mind)

I wonder if they will mention specifically Roosevelt or the Democrats throwing all americans descending from Japan in concentration camps. Weird how little talk there is of that and how few documentaries or shows or movies deal with that. "Weird".
