A 360 controller or equivalent (with analogic triggers) is the minimum requirement for such games. |
For you, yes. |
I tried to play rfactor or GTR2 (aids disabled) using the keyboard and the lack of an analogic trigger made the car spin every time I pressed a key
It was like driving with the accelerator pedal all the way down: works only if the game has a low level of simulation (imo, of course).

Oh come on Frant, stop being so goddamn stubborn and just admit that we MIGHT JUST BE RIGHT and Shift isn't the piece of shit you think it is.
I know you're not a 14 year old, so you must know how a real car handles. What happens when you go from going straight to full turning power within the blink of an eye? You either flick yourself into a spin, or with shit cars, you flip. What happens when you go from 0 to full throttle as fast as you can? Your wheels spin like crazy, reducing your grip on the road and thus risking a spin with the slightest movements. Not limited to high-powered cars either, I can make my measly 75 BHP FWD 206 get wheelspin with very little effort, just takes a bit of timing on the clutch.
Yes, a lot of games mitigate that digital input failure by handling it slowly, but that's hardly ideal.
I'd love to see you drive in real life with a car that can only do either full throttle/brake/steering or none at all. If digital input worked we wouldn't have steering wheels in our cars anymore

I had to spend a fucking hour to get the handling settings right for Shift, then it was all smooth sailing, until those VS battles got too difficult.

i wanted to test nfs rivals with my g27, but i found out that the game doesn't support steering wheels
so...i found out that Hot Pursuit do support steering wheels, but there are some problems with dead and no manual transition, and i wanted it to be like if anyone can recall a game from the arcade rooms by the name i think chase HQ with black police car who used to take down racers and the games used steering wheel and 2 levels shifting gear :here is a pic of the machine:
http://www.phoenixnestarcade.com/arcadepictures/chase.jpg
so, i found nice mode that fix the dead zone and the ffb and also add the shifting options so i use my 3 and 4 shifts as low and high and i must say that it is a blast to play the game with this mode
so nice that people doing this fixes, it can make a game from unplayable into very fun experience with just few code lines that the original dev was too lazy to do.
i don't understand what was the problem to add steering wheels to rivals.

I remember getting stucked at some levels because no matter how fast you were you never reached the end with the needed score
And drifting methods were the worst. "You want to do a soft drift or a hard one?"..

Unfortunately, there's the problem with EA's Porsche license which expired back in 2016 and also prevents the game from being available on the various storefronts.
Though even if such an issue didn't exist the game would likely still be ignored since it doesn't have the same mainstream appeal as #yolo Need for Awesome Button 2010 and the likes

I'll rather play The Run for the fourth time. It's the only recent NFS without open world and it's always a short but intense experience.

All i want is to skip the frigging AUTOLOG and chitchat cutscenes etc because UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
...And a fake login thing for the crackey version
Still what bothered me from this game was the "How to drift correctly".. Soft and hard brakes and when to exactly use em, coz i got stucked into one of those speed races (Just you, noone else) in the original
