Better play this one. The Run will be much worse than this I think, because the cars behaviour in that will be even worse and the rest is pretty much the same if not worse, again. Yes, the cars behaviour in this one is quite bad... as in the cars control pretty much like boats, but the game itself is really great in my opinion. I think I've said it before, but I'll say it again, this is I think the best we'll get in this derp era when it comes to an oldschool arcade NFS title. I simply love the races on the mountains and all that. I don't know what kind of racing games you like, but if you think you can get past that, you should really try it.

well, i guess i d rather re-install the older nfs games then, if i feel like it (last one i really liked was most wanted. Carbon and Undercover were "ok" as well). Or try shift again.

Ah, Shift.. Enjoy 0.5-second+ lag between key-press and car reaction. It feels like the car is on ice. I've tried various "tricks" and "tweaks" to fix it but it just feels crap.

Hot Pursuit was great, but for me the rubberband AI ruined everything.
Never have I seen a game with such a cheating AI, its impossible to fall behind and never catch up no matter how crappy you drive.
Its impossible to stay in the lead for long, or even extend the distance between the pack and yourself, they are always closely behind you.
You drive perfectly and then at the end one crash and suddenly you end up 5th just because the fucking AI is on a rubberband.
At the beginning its ok but once you play the game for a few hours it starts to snuff out all the fun.
This adaptive AI is the worst derp feature ever conceived.

Well by "key-press" you mean keyboard, no? I don't think one can enjoy much Shift with a keyboard. Why not try with 360 pad? With the appropriate mods, it is really good.

Gamepad. |
That's right, since my G25 broke some years ago, I did not buy another. But even with pad, it is infinitesimally better than a keyboard (analog vs binary ).

I hate gamepads with a vengeance. And I never had a problem with using the keyboard. I've always been good at driving with the keyboard, subconsciously I'll do dozens of tiny corrections every second to control the car.
GRID works perfectly well with a keyboard, yet the third-era NFS-games doesn't.

That is because GRID doesn't have much physics to speak of. Its driving engine is very simplistic.
But never mind.

GRID's driving engine is perfectly adequate and fun to play, not to mention the rather nice damage model. But then I'm not interested in ultra-realistic simulations, but people into those sims sure don't use gamepads for that, right?
Era 1: NFS 1-6, simple arcade
Era 2: Underground 1 & 2, Most Wanted, Carbon
Era 3: ProShit and forward.
In fact, the whole argument that it's because of the "super-complex advanced AI-based driving simulation interface" in NFS:Shift is just horseshit. You play with a gamepad and haven't experienced what I'm talking about. Your argument is like a console-derper going "gamepad wins over keyboard+mouse everytime", which is just dumb. Hundreds of racing games (simulations included) have had proper support for keyboard steering with advanced algorithms to simulate turn-rates, dead zones and whatnot. But for some reason the EA-team developing Era-3 games just didn't give a shit and didn't put any work/effort into those of us who prefer to play racing games with a keyboard.

What the fuck you talking about? Maybe 6 (HP2), but the rest? Simple arcade?

I wasn't mocking, just not taking the claim seriously. Just like I won't truly take a claim that a console analog controller is as good for aiming as a mouse.

That the keyboard can be as precise as a pad. Isn't this what you said?

Playing proper driving games (I mean the ones with a physics engine) with the keyboard is basically a suicide
A 360 controller or equivalent (with analogic triggers) is the minimum requirement for such games.

What ? I used to get the best times by turning with the analogue stick, you lose time if you intermittently tap a key at a long turn.
In fact I was so good that people were dropping me out of servers.
