It's too shallow for an RPG, too simple for a shooter, and the graphics look dated. I don't understand why this game received so much praise (not on the hump, but in general).

it's not my cup of tea anyway but I thought people liked this because it was kinda like a more polished bethesda fallout in space while fallout 4 and fallout 76 were kinda (in 76's case REALLY) shit.
when I saw people talking about it getting high praise it was usually just confused with Outer Wilds lol

I'd rank FO4 above this, the world is much more interesting to explore and it even had better quests, companions and stories (Far Harbour only for the stories part ).

The real edge that F4llout had for me was the sandbox experience alongside the modding capabilities, which turned the otherwise pansy fetch 'n repeat Blandesda into a pretty decent survival FPS where one could experiment with all sorts of carnages and power fantasies.
The Outer Worlds felt very limited in this regard, like a prepackaged and static candy box designed to satisfy only the basic needs in the safest way possible. It had actual RPG-ish elements and a charming narrative which I liked, but it still wasn't enough for it to leave a mark. Enjoyable, yet completely forgettable. A far cry from New Vegas' brilliance, which alas will never be replicated

yeah, like you will probably see all the game has to offer in an hour or so. After that its just repeating the:
same weapons
same textures
same items
same type of quests
so yeah.....

It was great for the first few hours (just enough to beat the first planet) until you saw how shallow it was. I guess people just wanted to cheer for the little guy.
So I too am confused with all the praise. Threw the towel in when I got to Monarch because of the vomit inspired design aesthetic of that planet.
They should have just made Tyranny 2.

You can tell they gave up at Monarch. It has like 2 sidequests or something. That place is a big ball of emptiness.
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

It was a 'Made by Obsidian' but accessible to masses RPG.

I still haven't played it. I held out for the Steam release, so I'm looking forward to it!
I love Obsidian and their games, so hopefully the price will be good as well.

Eh, depends on the price but I'll get it when there's a heavy discount on AND if the whole package (game + DLC's are low enough) is priced right.
Thought it was a sure purchase after the first planet but then... the rest of the game happened: every new planet was inferior to the first, every new character inferior to the first two, every weapon, upgrade and armor less and less interesting.
Quests were mostly ok throughout the game but everything else felt like a bait and switch, with the first planet and then the rest of the game.

Many games are like that though. Game seems like a passion project in the start, but it seems they've overdone it and you can feel it as the games drag on and the quality lessens.

As always with former Sweneeylusive games that I completed and somewhat enjoyed in their iso-form, it's gonna be a deep deep deep sale. So deep that it almost falls into the remorseless I'll buy it for a dollar category

Yeah i liked it as well but the game was made on shoe string budget and it shows, it's good it succeed since it probably helped make the decision for MS to pick them up way easier.

Well that was a crap ending, didnt gave a shit about anyone, so went with the evil path; finished at level 32 with 0 pts in combat skills lol. Anyway game overall was a letdown, 0 fun in exploring and survival, billion pointless loot everywhere, 0 fucks given for the companions, actually no one is worth remembering. Instead really enjoyed the writing and how non combat skills worked.

Parvati was very pleasant indeed at first with her awkwardness and naivety, but sadly the writer(s) couldn't develop the character properly and eventually turned her quests into an exercise of cringeworthy-iness instead. It was a problem with the entire game though, none of the characters could offer enough depth to really leave the bidimensional spectrum, and the rather safe/simplified themes didn't exactly make things too exciting in the long run.
I often brought SAM with me since he never busted my balls, plus, he had a very pragmatic approach to "diplomacy"
