Lighting looks good (from what little I can see).

Just a matter of time for the reveal now, the release should be around Xmas 2014.

About time. Source 2 yay. And also new SDK tools. Current ones are really damn outdated, I mean you can't even see lighting in real time you gotta compile...

Finally after 10 years the Source has proper shadows! Cool Face
In all seriousness, looks pretty indeed, even if it's hard to tell from them console-res thumbnails.

I read it as "Call of L4D3".

Then I re-read it again and honestly, it didn't change much :3

Yeah I bought L4D1 at day 1, then I did the same with L4D2 and later on they ported all campaigns from L4D1 to 2. I got screwed with my L4D1 purchase. Now we once again I will be screwed when they port everything to L4D3.

What? I think the release of the previous game's cotent is fantastic and would like to see more companies doing this.

You remind me of those people demanding a refund after L4D2 was given for free for a day. Some of them even said they got the game years ago on launch. LOL.

Did you enjoy L4D1? If you did, then you, in no way, got screwed with your purchase, since you bought a game that you thought you would like, and you did indeed like it.

I have 2.5k hours in the series, and I have friends who have almost 10 k hours and even hide their profiles cause of it.

They can literally kill you from any position, with any weapon/class, on any map.

l4d 3 will have a huge following and deservedly so. versus match on a modded l4d server, i rented that shit for 2 years. best mp gaming time of my life.

Sever modded for PC Master Race

tier 1 weapons, 1 pill bottle on each player + 1 additional pill bottle per map, tank with no timer and other amazing stuffs.

All those clanies that camp corners till tank timer runs out would rage so hard when i would toss rocks from high up and not be forced by valve to rush in with tank and die Reaction

and all friend versus games, when 8 players, all with 500+ hours play together. its just gaming bliss.

If l4d 3 comes and its worthy, i'll be a server admin again.

You are kidding, right?! I mean I get that you have problems with Valve because they released L4D2 so shortly after L4D1 but seriously, them implementing everything over time into L4D2 was great.

And now several years have passed since L4D2, I see no problem with buying L4D3.

If they announced that they will port all content to L4D2 I would wait for it. No matter how much I enjoyed L4D1 I don't mind waiting for the port.

Of course! If I knew the game will become free I was going to save my money and wait back then. Many people bought the game at day 1 for 49.99 or whatever the price was, and shortly afterwards the devs are making the game free to play - wtf! Its totally unacceptable.

And what would you have done if they had never announced it? Just released the content on-the-quiet to L4D2 players?

And what if the only reason they ported the content was because of all the players who liked the L4D1 content and wanted it in L4D2? If everyone thought like you, they'd never have released it, because everyone would've held off buying L4D1, because of the sequel obviously getting the older content.

Buyer's remorse I can get, but not when a game has 1) given you enjoyment, 2) is good, and 3) the content is free. Laughing

This is why Valve has not released HL3. They are bundling its content in HL4.

The point warriormax is trying to make is that they said there'd be more maps for L4D1 and instead all of that became L4D2 Smile

I thoroughly enjoyed both of them, but I get what he means Razz

L4D1 received about the same amount of new content L4D2 did:

L4D1 updates:
1) Survival mode (new maps: just one)
2) Crash Course
3) The Sacrifice

L4D2 updates:
1) The Passing
2) The Sacrifice
3) Cold Stream (actually made by the community, Valve assisted in polishing it)

The main difference is that L4D2 was gradually updated to include all L4D1 content, but that's not original content.

Its not just the maps. I can play custom maps all day. Valve promised more weapons, special infected, game modeS, to be added in L4D1 and this NEVER happened.

You're still missing the point Smile

With L4D1 they said they'd have much more coming than they did; it's only Crash Course (Last Stand wasn't particularly interesting to anyone and The Sacrifice came out a year after L4D2). L4D2 was conceived as a collection of maps that were meant for L4D1 originally, yet cost full price again. That's what pissed a lot of people off Smile

But what started all of this is that you said that they are pulling off the same with L4D3. It's > 4 years now that L4D2 has been released. I welcome anything in L4D3. And contrary to the first two L4D, I'll buy this on day one Smile

L4D2 went above and beyond the content you would get as free updates in a year since L4D1's release. Its maps alone were greater in number than L4D1's and 30% larger.

If L4D1's post-launch support schedule was followed there would be 10 guys making content for it while L4D2 as a full game had 100 guys making content for it (random numbers that probably are not far away from the truth).

In other words take L4D2's content divide it by eg ten and that's what you would get as free updates in a year.

Or just a look at L4D2's post-launch new content, since there wasn't a L4D3 to "steal" any content made. Is it more than what L4D1 got? Sure. By how much? Little.

Oh come on consolitis, take off your worshipping hat for once. I've loved just about everything Valve have produced, but you're just incapable of seeing anything wrong with them Smile

The problem for most people wasn't that L4D2 existed, it was that clearly they had all that shit planned and mostly done already and then released it as a full new game, like CoD. L4D had 4 campaigns and got one more via DLC; a very short one at that (Crash Course only has 2 parts and each part is ridiculously quick to complete).

L4D2 then comes out with 5 campaigns, bunch of new weapons and mechanics within a year. It then gets a DLC within 6 months already, with a 3-part campaign. That campaign all in all takes about twice as long as the CC one takes to complete. Clearly they were able to either churn this out in a year or they had it ready - either way, could've been done as DLC for L4D1.

It isn't until late 2010 that L4D1 gets anything (The Sacrifice) along with L4D2 and the fact that they CAN release it for both games shows that there really aren't that many differences under the hood. That's two years after the game released and its sequel not only got better DLC, it got just as much in half the time. And that's not even considering the fact that you can play all of L4D1 in the second game.

I'm not bitter, I bought both games, finished them many times from start till end, but the way L4D2 came to exist doesn't sit right with me either. Even if I go with the idea of "L4D2 changed so much we couldn't patch it", there should've been an upgrade package or something. Its release just came way too quickly and was a quick cash-in. Nothing more to it.

Regarding the graphics quality, those screens are supposedly 2-3 years old anyway. It's nice to see some GI in the images, but I doubt it's real time, so real time day/night changes won't be there in Source 2 either. And I read something about a compiler, just like previous versions, most of the shadows will be baked into the level data in a seperate shadow layer.

I remember Source being one of the first games to have HDR implemented, so hopefully they make some advancement in that fields too, like textures with higher bit count (8 is simply not enough for proper lighting)
