True that alcohol is simple to produce. Producing quality wine, beer whiskey rum and so on is not. Tobacco has no where near the same tradition for producing high quality products as alcohol beverages and as such can't really be compared. Banning alcohol would make us loose a very old tradition and some very fine products. This would be a huge shame.
It's possible to abuse quite a lot of stuff so why not just ban anything a substantial amount of people abuse?

I stopped smoking 5 month ago, and I'm pretty happy about it. What I really miss though is smoking my pipe from time to time and a good cigar on some festivities.
Tobacco does have a tradition of good taste, but its sadly used to "OMG NEED TO SMOKE NAO!!" cigarettes with added flavours/chemicals and mass production/consumption.
I would still not ban smoking, people need to decide for themselves. Though I say its pretty difficult to actually get away from the addiction.
Cigarettes should be strictly banned for young people under 18 though. I always cringe, when I see the kids smoking. (Though I myself started at 15y)
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Altho, its hard to say if it only was smoking that caused the problem/illness... genes, has so much to say. Some people smoke their whole life until they are 90 without any problems.

Fuck that. Most smokers now have been born after the horrible effects of cigs have become common knowledge. So they know the risks. So as u clearly stated some serious illnesses are rooted in ur genes, sooooo these people say "hey my father had lung cancer, I will not only not be careful but ill take up smoking too! That'll show the cancer who's boss!"
Yah, no sympathy.

I am all for banning smoking.
I am so sensitive to cigarettes smoke, that even when someone is walking on a sidewalk, smoking a cig, I can barely breath.
and some smokers just thorws em on the street.
But I am also all for banning alcochol. It never did anything good.
So either ban everything or allow everything.

Non smokers bitch and complain a lot. I have a problem with the exhaust from a car... maybe we should ban all vehicles? I have a problem with kids listening to music loudly. I have a problem with public displays of affection. Ban public smoking... hah. Oh boo hoo i smell smoke. Oh noes... I can't enjoy my pizza. THEN WHY DID YOU GO OUTSIDE? Cause it was hot inside and outside. Why not bring it home and eat it? That's what I used to do before I started smoking. You know... take responsibility for my actions rather than blame people around me because I wanted to control their free will. Srsly...
Public smoking isn't BAD. It's only bad if you're indoors and you're dying for a cigarette. Then the idea of only smoking outside is as stupid as deciding to go for a pizza on a scorching hot day... and not ice cream. But that's me.

And what about the tax dollars that go for fat people?
I'm sure that is more than for those who smoke. in the us, so many fat people there (uk seems to be catching up)
Exercising and sport is very healthy, let those who don't do that pay their own bills.
All lame excuses, there are easier ways to lose less taxes, army and making war all around the world is one of them.

Why not do the same for people who get injured as a reason of negligence? Like for instance when you crash, while driving, cause you are deleting posts on a forum with your phone? "He did something I disagree with, LETS PUT HIM ON THE STREET!"

Theres no point to smoking, it doesent give you anything positive and also effects people in the vicinity. So it should def be banned world-wide, the medical costs alone for smokers should be enough to ban it.

You can easily fix the problem by denying healthcare to smokers, and banning it in public places which is already done in most first world countries.
Banning it outright is idiotic and uncontrollable. If you 'banned' it like you do with other drugs you've just created a new product that can be criminalized and you loose the taxation of it even though people will still be getting it from criminal organizations.
Anyone who voted to outright ban it need be slapped upside the head. You create more problems outright banning it then *controlling* it. ffs

Underlined for being a fucking retard. A FUCKING RETARD
Did You just compared car exhaust to smokers ?
And that WE -irritating little non smoking bitches are complaining all the time ?
Your way of thinking is MINDBLOWING.
Smoking is almost as bad outside as inside. I can smell it from quite far. And closer up, it makes me hard to breath freely and makes me feel bad. Worse than near running car. Smokers annoy me to hell. Those who carelesly walk on a sidewalk in front of You and just takes a breath in Your face or whatever - the fucker is OUTSIDE. no way the cig smoke can annoy me right ?
And also - How do You even dare to say that I MADE bad decision by going on pizza and not ice cream because it is a hot day ? ARE YOU INSANE ? Maybe all tables were moved outside? Do You even think ?
If I want to eat pizza - it means that I am outside and I just want to eat a fucking pizza. We won't eat tons of ice cream, beacuse why? because smokers occupy outside of the restaurant?... And we were on ice cream a while after that if You really so much care for us eating ice cream. Damn. You must be really fat or something if You always choose to eat ice cream, because it is a hot day
jesus werelds... You are worse and worse. In You eyes everyone is a fucking complaining retard and You are a master of the universe. People like that, who
edit: sorry for overreacting a little bit but really... You can't tell me not to eat pizza because it is too hot and smokers like to smoke outside, because they can't inside...

Some of you are such hypocrites in a months time if I ran a "should drugs be legalized and taxed " poll I suspect it would swing with a majority to the "yes " side.

No problem, if they deny healthcare to fat people, people who drink, people who work in hazardous environments, people who are under too much strees, i'm game. Basically anyone who gets free healthcare should be vegan, jog and ride a bicycle everywhere, because fuck those smelly cars.

Of course they are. Everyone just gets really smug when it comes to smoking. Then you have little girls like KC who can't eat his pizza because of cigarette smoke. Poor guy... I hope he never visits China or some of the really polluted cities...

Smokers were already forced outside by people that didn't want smoking inside. Now that's not good enough either? If you want to eat, you can choose to eat inside or out, if smokers want to smoke they only have the one option -- so the simple answer is, whether you like it or not, if you want to eat and not be bothered by smoking; eat inside. It's too hot? Tough - you at least have a choice.
I quit smoking almost three years ago and I still miss it though I have no qualms with people smoking outside because I understand that's their only option. No way would I vote or sign for a full ban.

Obesity is can be a disorder (and wasn't there an additional tax for fat people in some country in Europe for a time? ), people work in hazardous environments because they have to work... most of your comparisons can easily be argued against.
I am not actually taking any stance here on the main issue, but you arguments is hitting pretty close to that gay marriage slippery slope
