Looks interesting, but I wonder how big it is. I have no interest in some small fan-based prelude - but if it's of a similar size and scope as the original game, this could be really cool.
Yeah there's no info on what the release contains yet, they should have a actual article up later today which will hopefully include that information.
(It's ~1.3 GB in size going by the downloadable file but Doom 3 itself is about the same so there could still be a bit of content to this beta.)
A long running project to make a Arx game via the IDTech4 (DOOM3) engine had it's first beta release yesterday.
(Started in 2010 it seems.)
Stand-alone and uses no resources from either DOOM 3 or Arx.
Very nice, really enjoyed the game back then.
Will download the rather small beta to see how the graphics look, as the original game still looks rather okay.
If this seems good, i will wait for the full release though.
// Well tested for some minutes. Graphics look much better as expected.
- The GUI looks ghastly. Just because it's a remake of an old game, doesn't mean you can't at least put some effort into it.
- Also when looting, it loots everything at once. You don't get to open the container first and see what's inside.
- And the performance is just shit: 47-50 fps. And CPU and GPU barely get used.
Looks promising. But i guess they need at least 1 more year to improve this.
Haha, will never forget how I screwed up in this game when I played it. Somewhere in the middle of the game I found some badass that I swore to kill. Well, killed him and he has some very nice gear and I became badass myself. Then I wanted to try if any guard and civilian NPC can kill me. Turned out I killed everyone in the "villages" including the quest givers. One of the best games ever!
Heh yeah the game does allow for the player to try all sorts of things but there are consequences.
It's also possible to screw up when using the rune magic by for example summoning something that's a little bit tougher than most anything else in the entire dungeon.
(I think the spell can fail too which results in summoning a golden chicken instead of a golden ylside or what that creatures name was.)
Nice! Bookmarked for the future. When I first tried Arx Libertatis (several years ago) I was surprised at how comfortable it felt with all its graphical options and various fixes, it really is a massive improvement over the technically shaky vanilla game on modern systems.
I recently replayed it with the january build, no problems. Just wanted to check the "demo" on Steam and did a full playthrough, since it's actually the full version and Libertatis just cracks it
Ah the game where I was stuck for what felt like an eternity because of some hidden lever or dialogue option. The memories. Good idea for a replay indeed!
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
I loved Arx Fatalis but also never finished it. Not because of a lever tho. I remember there was some neutral black knight NPC with some cool gear. Took me few hours but I managed to kill him and took all that sweet armour and weapons he had. After that I killed everyone I found... including every single quest giver. So I couldn't progress. Never restarted it to play it normally.
