At least they look sexy. Why the fuck nobody imitates their laptop look. Do they have a patent on unibody or something.
I paid $1200 for a sony laptop and that piece of crap was more powerful than cheapest unibody Al mac, but the build quality is no where near apple. I had to tape the freaking cover for Ethernet because it wouldnt stay put. Plus a huge minus is the battery life, only about 3 hours, plus it freaking leaks. I lose about 10-20% of charge every day. Leave it alone for a weak and it will completely drain your battery. For the that price I was expecting build quality and everything be top notch, just like apple.
And Im in no way apple lover, dont own a single apple product, and even bought zune hd over ipod knowing full well it doesnt have anywhere near as many apps as ipod.

So wait, let me get this straight. Getting a mac to use the Music Industry Standard LOGIC PRO is being "mentally stunted"?
guys, get over yourselves, macs originally blossomed as creative workstations.

did i say anything of the sort?!? you made a sweeping generalisation about all mac purchasers being "mentally stunted", yet neglected to mention that macs have their uses as you have in your last post.
im simply bringing to the table that mac hate is more prevalent on this board than "mac fags" pimping their wares.
my macs are simply tools, my xbox 360 is simply my gaming platform, nuff said. did i just disrespect anything to do with your PCs? no.

I kinda doubt that, since the uni doesn't have the money for the electricity -.-
But really, for the price of the macbook you can get a 'beast' laptop...

It must be annoying to know for you anti-mac folks that the OSX application development scene is huge, and full of so much more free software than windows based systems, and almost as many as linux.
For every windows app, there are like 10 mac apps that are better and free. Its just the way it is. |
Well good for you ^^ Can you tell me what apps do you mean (I'm not familiar with apple products), and what benefit do you get with it?

I just don't want to get into a slanging match needlessly. I, of course, see your point and never disputed it... but you want to know what pisses us off so much? Condescending, ignorant, falsified, bullshit like this;

Too damned expensive, too damned restrictive, too damned weak in comparison to most other manufacturers ... BUT! if you're going into professional audio and visual work, then yes; a Mac does seem to be the best platform for it. |
Mac also the best platform for Web development IMHO. Web development is much more comfortable with easy access to a unix shell, mac os x so to say is a very polished linux disto
As I love to play turn based strategy games I can't use consoles, so I have a PC for gaming needs and MacBook Pro for work / daily use. That strict separation allows me to settle for less powerful hardware which allows it to be more slim and silent. My previous Apple notebook - PowerBook G4 served me for six years before I replaced it with MacBook Pro.
And being Apple product, harmony of software and hardware frees me from playing with drivers, tweaking, configuring etc. I do a lot of that during my work On my work / daily computer all I want is to wake it from sleep and do whatever I want to do asap.

Haha, I just love Apple. I'm simply in love with their products, which are so user friendly and aesthetically pleasing. And of course, its a luxury brand. Having an Apple is a nice way to stand out from the cheap crowd. Ever since I bought my sleek aluminum MacBook, I worship Steve Jobs.
The only thing that really does blow about Apple, is the absurd 1 year warranty on their products. Nevertheless, Dutch consumer law warrants a 3-5 year warranty on iPods and Macs. So if you're persistent enough, a premium reseller will still repair your Mac if you don't have the extra AppleCare warranty.

in short - for me - without insulting anyones taste - apple sucks. I like my computers and i like my freedom. i do not like to feel like iRobot. So, I use my iPod and that is about as far as i will ever go with apple products. And just to mention one thing, I love how Apple owners brand themselves as "the more upscale, wealthier and in a sense - cooler crowd" - you all got tricked into buying overpriced pretty plastic, that does not offer any significant advantage in computing but at the same time manages to price itself way above any competitors. At the end of the day, just the fact that i can build any kind of pc from scratch shows to me that i can make it look better than your apple with a bit of creative work. You will forever be stuck in your little box, which you can only peak out of when Steve Jobs allows you to. fuuun.
fuck ...

Uhm, Logic Pro "industry standard"?? It's a high end product based on Logic Audio (Apple bought emagic and cancelled all Windows versions (isn't that abusing their position??)), but Pro Tools is THE professional music industry standard recording tool.

true. I have been in a couple of studios using pro tools, my brother being a professional musician. I would disagree that it is "THE" professional standard. When you are locked into buying purely pro tools hardware as your desk it limits it. I know quite a few musicians who would choose logic over pro tools anyday

Macs give artsy types the ability to use a fisher price version of a computer without having to actually learning anything new or slightly difficult, which is a good thing I guess.

there are also studios that use cubase or ableton live and similar on windows systems. Recording software on both windows and mac is the same in most regards. It comes down to personal taste really. It is far more important to have good recording hardware than software, because the choices there are arbitrary.
