If that was true they would get sued because they don't own the license to the movies, they only own it for the books. They said in many interviews they really concentrated to make their own vision of the world, and not to base it on the movies. (and they can't anyways, because of the license) |
Aragorn is a tall caucasian male of moderate build with brown hair down to his shoulders, he wears cloaks and the like initially. This is how he is described in the book, there isn't really much room for deviation, at least not enough that would be noticible in a computer game.
What were you expecting, it's the same to a lesser degree with the other creatures you mentioned. The thing which will show for definite whether they took their inspiration from the movies or directly from the book is how they represent The Balrog, Shelob and Sauron.

I should have written Aragorn in the intro looks very much like Viggo Mortensen. Just compare them. Same with the trolls. Their head look exactly like their counterparts in the movies, same with the crown of the witchking and other thinks.
You know trolls and orcs from other games/movies/books. There is a huge variety how they look like. Tolkien never described their faces/heads in detail. Still, the ones in the game look really like taken out of the movies. Like the headbands of the elves, never been mentioned in the books, shown in the movies and strangely also in the game. So many similiarities.
Give me some artistic skillz and i draw you some believable trolls/orcs/Aragorns that are no Jackson Clones but still look like they are from the books. When we saw the intro my GF shouted: "Hello, Viggo!".

Well i've not even played the game or watched the intro so I was assuming the graphics were similar but not identical to the movie representations. Although the Trolls in the film look exactly as they're described in the Hobbit in my opinion, he didn't go into as much detail in LOTR.

After testing the beta a while back and thinking this game sucked, I gave it another look today and bought it, it's great ive got about 8 hours played in game and I can say compared to wow (I bought wow day of release and sold my account about 2 months ago) this is alot better, the graphics are better, all the features that blizzard added over the years improving their game... LOTRO already has all of wow's features plus more. the ONLY downside is there's no open world pvp like in wow but hell ganking and world pvp got old and died after the release of battlegrounds. this game is surprisingly awesome!

Someone should remove the "beta" in the topic name as it's no longer BETA.

the best part of this game is the music instruments you can buy.
buy a flute and type /music and you can now use 1-9 to make diffrient sounds and make your own little play.
Rest of the game is sjite. Very very few skills, weapon models looks bad, the classes aint very interesting.

I'm really enjoying this game. Everything is ok to excellent (deeds and traits are excellent) with some exceptions:
- Not enough random loot
- Different weapons sometimes look the same as other, previous, weapons
- Most of the people also look the same, because of the things above, with the exception of a title maybe

Seriously considering buying this game as im a huge fan of lotr and everything about it especially the lore. I've played 2 mmos in the ppast, the first one being eve the second sw galaxies. Both games got boring as hell cause the only thing you could really do was grind, grind and grind some more.
Hows the missions in this one? All go fech and kill or is there something more interesting perhaps a few missions where you dont need to kill anything but instead solve a puzzle, mystery etc
Dont mess with God, he can impregnate your girlfriend/wife without taking his pants off!

They are not interesting at all, at finding the questgiver/quest area is pretty hard if you are a first timer, the directions in the quest log just plain SUCKS.

You are full of it. Quest log directions in LOTRO are one of the best I ever saw in RPG or MMORPG.

Got a few questions:
Is it a large world you run around in, similar to WoW? Or are there istanced maps you enter, the way most korean mmos work? Or perhaps Guild Wars style?
How is the pet/summoning system, is it like wow, where you can control your pet to your liking, use its abilities etc? Or is it simplified? Can you tame, if so, can you tame any animal?
Are the pets powerful enough to make a considerable difference compared to without them?
(Summoner/Pet classes is my thing, I'm always that type of class)
Are there alot of people ingame? I remember reading that it was pretty empty, how about now? Is it well populated with players around lvl1-30?
Sorry for comparing to WoW in my questions, but I just love how WoW is built so that's why i'm comparing it so much. I don't play it anymore, but I still think it's the best MMO i've played so far. So if you hate WoW, don't bother flaming me, i'm just trying to get a feel for the game.
I've got no friend playing, so I can't get an invite to the trial and I wasn't in the beta, that's why i'm asking these questions before I decide if I want to buy it.
Thanks.
