Plus I'm not a teacher, so I think you're getting confused.

I have been meaning to ask you. What exactly is that. Are you in admin?

We don't have anything like that here.

I'm guessing it's something like a truant officer someone who makes sure kids goto school or somthing.

Ok got it.

We don't have those here. Here if a kid doesn't go to school no one gives a shit. Sometimes the school will call home if a kid is absent but nothing is done. Our social services don't really have the resources to look into stuff like that. So many cutbacks and lay offs they can only do the really bad abuse stuff.

although Jenni doesn't seem to be piping in, I think an education officer in the UK isn't really about enforcing truancy.

one position for an education officer in the UK I saw a job ad for said:

Quote:
manage and co-ordinate the delivery of the education programmes.

so I'd say they're more into planning and implementing the curriculum then anything else Wink

read Nouses post.

@syso

Trust me I checked. In BC there is no such thing. Only social services.

I have teachers in my family, plus quite a few friends. Schools out here don't give two shits if a kid goes to school or not. There is a phone recorded message by computer if I kid misses a class. If it happens enough they may call the parent directly. Nothing is ever done about it. If it gets really bad they may call social services, but even then not much is done. The resources just aren't here. Too many other problems. Maybe it is our prov. gov. (which I believe it is, like they cut health care like l don’t know what, also cut out the kids too)

Sorry I didn't see this.

Yeah it is about enforcing the curriculum. However I don't really deal with that. I more or less go around schools, colleges and universities to make sure that exams are held under the proper conditions. I write reports on the schools I visit and basically keep the heads of the schools uninformed Wink. It's great because the head mistress of the school I went to was a right bitch to me. Oh the joy of joys when I first went back there only to discover the old bag hadn't retired. Now she has to report to me. Very Happy

Nearly forgot. I tried Social work (I have a degree in sociology) and I hated it. To see the way some kids lived. I'm very passionate (as some on the forum I'm sure will agree with) and at times I just wanted to smack their parents. Other times I came home from work and cried. After giving my two a big hug of course. So my Social worker days were short lived. I hated it. Now I work for the kids rather than with them.

What you mean be a slave to them again? She can write a bad report, but she can't lie. It's pretty pointless saying that because an education officer doesn't get paid a lot and it's a shit job anyway. As is a headteacher but they're paid more (on average).

I don't see why you can't.

Although they may not have that type of job in schools over there, they must have it for uni's.
