Are we really at the point in time where "dont be salty" is an acceptable phrase to write as a translation?

Cucks, incel, boomer, smash, sus,... all that nonsense. And yeah it won't be long before the hip gaming companies will give us that lingo. Sad Razz

Bet Ubi already does to a greater extent. Razz

Not necessarily against people using it privately even if it gets grating, especially when certain when old words gets massacred.

But translations and serious games should he held at a higher standard. Games which are basically joking and doesnt take itself seriously is something else. I know you can say this about Yakuza, but Yakuza is very serious when it wants to be.

I love it so far!

It's very cutscene heavy in the beginning, but that is typical of the Yakuza series. I'm enjoying the mini games way too much. Some of them could be released as a standalone game and will still hold up Laughing

I've been playing for close to 19 hours now, trying to do all the substories, side activies, enjoy all the mini games, do a little bit of karaoke and with every passing minute I'm just reminded why I love the series so much.

Can't say. They're too different. This is more goofy overall, yet still has an interesting story. Do you enjoy turn based combat? It's pretty fast paced anyway though.

Haven't played any Yakuza game before. I'm in Yokohama now beating up hobos. Does the game open up a bit or is it 30 minutes of cutscenes and 5 minutes of gameplay for the most? It's not a sarcastic question I enjoy the story so far but would like to now how much freedom you are given later in the game and from which act.

It does open up, yes.

The beggining is a little bit cutscene heavy, but once it hits chapter 3, you get a good amount of substories available and the game is opening up.

Still there are some zones where some of the enemies are higher level than you, so you should be careful, at least in the beginning.

That's the secret of the Yakuza franchise.

No matter how goofy the marketing is in the West, the main story and the substories are always on point. You can see posts everywhere about the crazy stuff that happen in each of the games, but hands down I can't remember another series in which the quality of the writing has almost never dropped. (for 7 games now, excluding the spin-offs)

7 deviates from that quite a bit though, being a callout to dragon quest and all. Should have been a spinoff really

My first Yakuza game. Very good so far. Very Happy Yes, chapter 1 is pretty much all cutscene (but nice) with very little gameplay. Chapter 2 opens up.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

The game opens up on Chapter 5-6 so beware, it's about 8h of mostly cutscenes with some walking.
I'm on chapter 8 now. 40 hours in. My main gripe is combat. The skills are mostly meh, for example Fire Belch and Fire Breath are 13 and 52 mp but the damage difference is only 10-15%. It's really hard to do AOE damage with enemies moving all the time.
But I think the lack of stats for enemies and their levels is really bothersome. Did the sewer dungeon and fought for 40 minutes with one boss who was 2 levels higher than my characters because he was a damage sponge. Couldn't really use autofight because of the mentioned above shitty skills problem.
The gear scaling seems wrong because buying most expensive stuff doesn't really give that much damage bonus. It's just really weird that some 30 lvl enemies take the same amount of damage as their 15 lvl counterpart...

Finished it today.

It took me 105 hours, while doing all the mini games, substories and everything.

I enjoyed it a lot, they took the franchise and put a little bit of a spin on it and it worked!

The combat was great, although when you play for a 100 hours it can feel like a little bit of a chore in the end, thankfully the different jobs you can take helped with that.

The story was really good, I enjoyed it a lot, yes, it was a little bit predictable at times but it was still great.

The characters were amazing and I'm keen to see how they will continue Ichiban's story because his ark seems really complete right now.

Definitely my GOTY so far.

+1 Finished it around 95 hours. The only point I can't agree on was combat. Too many enemies were damage sponges. I spend atleast 40 minutes twice fighting some miniboss mob. For me there was something off with it, how the difficulty of enemies was unpredictable so in the end I hated the combat and the grind.
Everything else I 100% concur.
