Should have just delayed the game for some days / weeks instead.
Will be hard to fix the reputation of this crippled start - if even possible.

Since this game was added to my backlog, it might be mostly fixed by the time i start it. Very Happy

How do these people even have jobs, to miss something this basic?

Oh they have history.

https://www.reddit.com/r/vita/comments/2a046m/reminder_not_to_buy_any_nisa_games/

I think there's a bigger list somewhere and that's mostly just localization though sometimes they destabilize the game too.

To their merit the first patch fixed some issues and it came out pretty quickly though it broke alt-tab now for people using fullscreen but they're patching the game at least.

https://www.usgamer.net/articles/nis-america-ys-8-switch-localization-translation-issues-day-one-patch

Summary:
Quote:

Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana is finally coming out for the Nintendo Switch on June 26, but early reviews seem to say that the Switch version has many of the translation and localization errors that plagued nearly every other version of Ys 8. However, NIS America says it is aware of these issues and are planning three launch day patches that will fix the known localization errors among others.

It's good it's being patched and all but who ever heard of three day-0 updates before?
Some launch-day patch is the common thing, two perhaps if they get a hotfix out but that's already pretty rare and well this is entirely new to me short of early access or a number of quick hotfix updates following a major patch release.

EDIT: But at least there's a chance the localization fixes will make it into the other versions too so that wouldn't be too bad.

The latest one was yesterday, might still be beta only though.

And yeah the main localization update was included with the PC version but it was still pretty rough with typos, entirely untranslated lines and the wrong voice file for the text being displayed plus numerous smaller typos and spelling errors particularly the farther you got into the game and outside of the main story line.

Seems NISA has a schedule for the Switch version here and it's actually 4 patches now though not all on day-1 of release. Smile

Thank you for your support and excitement for Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA for Nintendo Switch. We wanted to outline the schedule for the upcoming patches, which we previously had communicated were coming soon, to address known text refinements and other issues. Due to the worldwide release of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA, optimization was the top priority during development, and continues to be our focus.

You can check back to this page anytime to see the current status on the following items below:

Patch v1.01
Short Description: Fixes include adjustment to Nintendo Switch auto-sleep function, incorrect icons displaying, and text refinements.
Current Status: Ready for Launch
Actual Live Date: June 26

Patch v1.02
Short Description: Addressing crash issues, some aesthetic issues, and text refinements.
Current Status: Testing Round 2
Expected Live Date: Launch week

Patch v1.03
Short Description: Text refinements.
Current Status: Testing Round 1
Expected Live Date: Week after launch

Patch v1.04
Short Description: Japanese Voice Implementation and aesthetic refinements during cutscenes.
Current Status: Testing Round 1
Expected Live Date: Mid July 2018

If you are unsure what the statuses mean, you can see the Status workflow written below:

• Planning
• Development
• Testing Round 1
• Testing Round 2
• Ready for Launch

We will continue to update this schedule as new information comes in, and intend to keep this information as clear as possible while we implement these planned patches. Thank you again for your support.

For the PC version many of the technical problems have since been resolved but they're still working on it, while also not always listed they have fixed several of the reported grammatical errors as well but far from everything.

EDIT: Latest patch was two days ago, improving map shadows impacting game stability.

Just the blur issue now and the current lengthy beta patch will be moved to default. Smile

Ys9 Monstrum Nox

Going to be a year or two after the 2019 release date before it hits the West and then PC and other ports beyond PS4 whoever picks it up.
(XSeed seems to be slowly falling but might still be able to come back although they've lost a few staff and then there's NIS or NISA rather and well they're improving at least.)

EDIT: Hmm a bit darker this time then?

I never played this series, it seems a good one for the jap fix. Are the stories in these games standalone? If I play 8, will I understand what's going on?

All the stories are standalone, though the world is connected. You'll sometimes encounter easter eggs or snippets of conversation relating to previous titles but nothing is needed to enjoy each game individually. Now, what will really bonk your noggin is the timeline Laughing Ys VIII is actually, chronologically, the fifth in the series Laughing

https://steamcommunity.com/app/579180/discussions/0/133257636763358074/

An excellent primer for anyone new to the series ^^ And I *cannot* recommend enough playing, all of which are on PC with excellent ports. In fact, every Ys title (aside from Ys IX: Monstrum Nox) is on PC right now \o/

Ys "III" Oath in Felghana (remake of Ys III)
Ys "IV" Memories of Celceta (remake and combination of the two Ys IV titles)
Ys VI Ark of Napishtim
Ys Seven (yes, no subtitle and no Roman numerals.. go figure?)
Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana

I'm not a fan of the first two Ys titles (and haven't played Origin, which is a prequel set hundreds of years before Adol's adventures in the series) due to terrible, fucking god awful terrible, combat system which has you "bump" into enemies to damage them Facepalm

Not that anyone really cares, but I finished a mega Ys playthrough last January, bingeing on the entire series from start to finish, and posted this on Facebook when I was done;

I'm actually not a big fan of the post-Ys Seven games with a party system. I even prefer Ys I+II over those games due to one major reason: the pacing and length. For me 10-12 hours is the perfect length for a Ys game. To be fair I mainly played these games for the bangin' OST. Anyway Ys Origin is my favorite, it's a must-play.

This is the latest and technically best (for a jap port) one right? I don't have time to go through the whole series sadly. I'm still taking a stroll in Death Stranding :/

@Vryder

I enjoyed the "one character; Adol!" system of the earlier games, but I'm also a jRPG whore so I also loved the party system of the recent entries too Very Happy But yes, the soundtracks in the Ys series are fantastic!

@Mister_s

Yes, Ys VIII is the most recent and technically best. If you're not playing the whole series I at least recommend playing Ys VIII, Memories of Celceta, and one of the classic "one character" titles; Oath in Felghana.

Yeah, IMO, order of release. That way you don't get the "Swanky new 3D! Wait... ew, going back to Ye Olde 3D?" feel Laughing

Oath in Felghana (for the lovely pixel art, awesome soundtrack, and the classic action RPG style with a single character; Adol) followed by Memories of Celceta (when they really started pushing the new gameplay style, embracing 3D and party mechanics) and finally Lacrimosa of Dana (the most recent and technically advanced entry)

Considering the size of some of these games I'd rather it's done well without the darker stuff that were part of some of the XSeed efforts in localization the Trails series though I suppose the Ys games are a bit more lightweight and so far other than Adol deciding to seemingly built a monster girl harem in Fantasy Rome / Fantasy Vatican State this doesn't seem to be changing much up overall. Razz
(Ran out of gods to hunt, started hunting girls instead I suppose. )

Script quality wise well short of understanding the original language and having that version of the script to compare with long as it's not complete gibberish on par with Google translate it's probably OK though it sounds like they are changing a few things up but then so did XSeed both to make it more natural and some of their twist on things.
(Makes me curious what the Zwei games were originally before Dad Joke protagonist husband and Mouthy Mama protagonist wife since the localization for the first game went in that direction. Very Happy )

Bigger problem for Tales is the length and connectivity, Ys well other than the timeline being a bit back and forth it's far more loosely connected and basically Adol reaches new area, kills everything, loots all and leaves the island as a place of Atheism having killed the gods or concept of divinity before leaving.
(Killings gods is nothing new though but Adol started around the age of 16 and moved on to killing evolution and the root of existence among other things from deities to super weapons to the original plot of Ys about these winged people and their technology... Razz )

Gonna be a real bitch escaping the not-Vatican after turning a whole host of monster girls into his love interests this time though, going to be a lot of scorned women in the world by the time he passes on ha ha.
(No wonder the far north would be the last place to explore it's probably the only remote safe place he has left at that point where Adol won't risk running into these ex girl friends.)

Last game canonically too so Adol should be nearing his 30's and by JRPG standards being completely ancient and old man well past his prime. Very Happy
(Still can't get into growing a decent beard far as it seems.)

EDIT: Oh yeah I missed something, considering it's NIS/NISA I would also like to see a good effort on the PC port and tech side of things but if Durante is contracted to work on it then that at least is looking good. Smile
(Staggered release perhaps if the Switch and Playstation builds are a priority but long as it's not broken it's acceptable even if not quite ideal compared to a simultaneous launch.)

They do seem to have learned a bit though so that's good and patching up Ys8 is a nice gesture and definitively fixes a lot of the earlier remaining problems with the PC version from what I've been reading up about this weekend.

EDIT:
https://rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/ys-series.95745/page-33

So a nun (Holy fuck indeed.) a minotaur something (Got milk.) some android/robot looking girl (Though it could just be high-heel wheels??) and a catgirl. (They're fine too apparently.)

And a dude. (Token rival I guess since Adol's man-bro is Dogi crusher of walls in all four dimensions.)

EDIT: But we'll see whenever what was it Decorum Nox or something like that comes out.

First this patch for Lacrimoza of Dana and then the PC port of Cold Steel 3 - Hope you've played the earlier games, all of them.

And I guess eventually Ys9 Deco Nox and Cold Steel 4 (Wrapping up Erebonia and still not quite done with the saga or the world building, 60% something was it?)

Yeah, if anything you should play the translated Vita versions - those are what the upcoming (still JP-only for now...) PS4 ports are based off. Quite like Ys Seven and Lacrimosa too, both started as Vita titles.
