Sega has announced Sonic Mania Plus, a packaged release version of Sonic Mania with new features, due out this summer.
The packaging will feature a holographic slip cover, reversible Sega Genesis / Mega Drive-branded sleeve, and 32-page Sonic Mania art book. It will cost $29.99.
Sonic Mania Plus will feature two new playable characters (Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel), an all-new “Encore Mode,” and an expanded four-player “Competition Mode.”
Users who already own Sonic Mania will be able to get the new content of Sonic Mania Plus via a free update.
Sega has announced Sonic Mania Adventures, a series of five animated shorts done by the team that made the opening animation for Sonic Mania. The first episode will be released for free within the next 30 days.
Sonic Mania Adventures will star Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, and not feature any dialogue. Music will be done by Tee Lopes, who handled the music for Sonic Mania. There will be an ongoing story between all five shorts.
“For all gamers who purchased the original digital version of Sonic Mania on console and PC, an Encore DLC pack will be available for sale to access the new features, with more details to come at a later date.”
Sonic Mania Plus arrives July 17th! Check out the game’s new features, a first look at Mighty and Ray, and treat your ears to a special remix of “Time Trials” by Hyper Potions and Jun Senoue!
Sonic Mania Plus is available both as a physical copy and as DLC if you already own the game. The physical edition comes with special packaging, a reversible cover, and a 32 Page Art Book. It was the #1 request from our fans, so we worked really hard to make it something special for you all, and we hope you’ll love it!
