In that specific case it's a good improvement. However I'm not sure it wouldn't ruin some levels.

but damn is it awesome. an actual game where you need to explore. I never got this far in the past. just finished palace of midas. the amount of challenging jumps in this level alone is staggering.
How can anyone prefer the new derp raider to the classics I will never understand. It's hilarious how it went from a complex exploration game to a cinematic corridor romp

It's just nostalgia, fucking elitist! The older games suck now!

That's because you are a misogynist who only likes women for their boobs. Let's face it the only reason you like this game is because of Lara's breasts. Fact is you just can't stand the new games because they are finally about an empowered young girl that can do everything a man like Nathan Drake can.

Can you feel my pain
We've lost the war, but no one will ever take these masterpieces away from us *wears fancy pink nostalgia glasses*
(You've probably played it already, but there's also Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine which is another great alternative to the classic Lara)
Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine is absolutely amazing! It kind of makes the old Tomb Raider games look like casual games with its complex puzzles and even more unforgiving nature. I played that so much when I was a little kid, but never managed to finish it, had to settle with watching my uncle beat it, haha!

Haha! Yup, it was a very tough beast, I remember the game was even criticized back then for that reason. Just imagine what could possibly happen today
The more action-oriented Emperor's Tomb that was released some years later wasn't bad either, but nowhere as good as the hardcore Infernal Indy, there were already signs showing a degree of Uncharted-ization if you know what I mean xD
Completed the first game finally. basically, if you need proof of idiocracy happening, watch a simultaneous let's play of the first and last tomb raider game on yt, and weep at the death of involving gameplay over a 20 year period.
We went from a tough and long action/adventure platformer that established a new genre at the birth of 3d gaming, to a casual game where audio visual direction and quality are the only redeeming features in the series, with the rest being cardboard cut outs of trendy console blockbuster game mechanics
Geralt did an investigation on this trend and we agreed on a conclusion :
Gonna binge play 2-5 soon as well, as this is the kind of gameplay I am looking for. slow, challenging, rewarding, no hand holding.

Thanks for sharing your opinion with us.
Oh and welcome back to 20 years ago indeed.

yep, was a bit too young at age 11 to appreciate it, but now I can say that so far out of the 6 TR games i've played, aniversary/legend/underground,+ the two new ones, this is my favorite one.
Absolutely nails the archeological exploration vibe for me. It's not all great though. last two levels are a bit trash, with too much combat, which is even crappier then the modern cover shooter gameplay, but yeah, overall, the best TR game i've played so far.
Looking forward to exploring the rest of the series i've missed.
I thought they were all boring towards the end, even back then.
And that's including TR1.
Still I remember tr1 quite well and I was only 9 years old. So somehow it must have marked me.
I was playing the PC version but disc less so didn't have any music or anything. That didn't help, specially since I remember the real time cutscenes with Larson is using CDDA and thus it was all silent here
@Witchy: I think it's probably better if you take your time and try to dilute the "binge-devouring" because it could get a bit overwhelming in the long run.
The first four games are all excellent, though Chronicles suffers from some fatigue in the design which is noticeable.
Anyway, just in case: http://hof.trle.net/ (the games are also like a Dark-mod-like platform, with tons of custom maps and levels for all the occasions!)
yeah, I won't play them all in a row like I did with Sam Fisherina a couple of years back, but I definitely bumped them up from the dusty nether regions of the backlog, into the near future backlog which usually means alternating between a modern game/retro classic.
and damn, had no idea there were actual fan made levels
and yes, will need to look into the indy jones contender in clunky tank controls from 1999, if I recall correctly from my youthful gaming magazine devouring days
5. copied over the "Data" and "FMV" folders over to "tombraid" from the cd image (rename game.gog to game.cue, a file in the "tomb raider 1" folder of the gog install)
A short, live-action film promoting Tomb Raider 3, thought lost, has recently been rediscovered. It was only shown once, at Tomb Raider 3's launch party in London's Natural History Museum. Having uncovered the original Digibeta tape (tape!), producer Janey de Nordwall passed it to Square Enix which has uploaded it for all to see.
Sin317-"im 31 years old and still surprised at how much shit comes out of my ass actually ..."
SteamDRM-"Call of Duty is the symbol of the true perfection in every aspect. Call of Duty games are like Mozart's/Beethoven's symphonies"
deadpoetic-"are you new to the cyberspace?"
Definitely not bad, the first person perspective also suits the game (surprisingly) well. The biggest improvement is the rendering itself, since the original version has that trademark "wobbly" effect involving textures and models typical of the PS1 era
The "wobbly" effect is the lack of depth buffer. i.e. the precision is too low for point coordinates that creates this aliasing effect in the lacement of polygons
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
