@red_avatar
ok good to know. resources does not seem to a problem in this game no, plenty of that. just generally not a fan of building bases, placement and all that, but i can live with that.

Oh the building is fast & easy. Also, at great depths, you really really need a base that gives oxygen OR go down with your sub. But the sub is hard to navigate at these depths.

What I recommend, is googling the wreck sites since they contain vital blueprints. It beats exploring for hours hoping to come across them and some are very very important to progress.

Yeah, once you get the sub, it's a good idea to have bases all around with battery rechargers. The submarine is perfect as a base by itself, but if you'd lose it, you might ragequit the game entirely Razz

Funny, I never actually completed this game. Once I reached the deepest base, I felt like I had seen everything (+ the rest on Youtube Laughing )

Seems like the game does have some interesting mods

Map mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/mods/12

Decorations mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/mods/102 (well if im gonna do a base i might as well do it properly)

Auto sort lockers: https://www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/mods/31

these looks quite good, anyone tried them or have any recommended mod(s)?

Hmm, I'm feeling the need to install this game again and use some mods (Map Mod, Auto Sort lockers).

I have to be honest, I think using a map mod is cheating Razz

You should use buoy markers to map yourself... there is a lot of stuff to find, and I think with maps, the joy of discovery is completely lost. But that is my opinion only, of course.

I have already finished the game without a map and the one thing that was really annoying was not having a map. The buoy system was cumbersome. As someone wrote; it's in a sci fi setting with serious technology yet a map is impossible. Doesn't make sense.

Well it does if it's an unknown planet that has no records - how do you think a map is going to be generated - by the magic pixie fish? Laughing

But the map only shows places you've been to, not everything at once. So you are basically mapping manually.

I wish there was more automation in the game, for collecting resources etc.

I wished for the same. However, I also saw how it would lessen the impact of the game if the "chores" are skipped and you go straight for the reward which at this point means very little if you didn't work for it. And collecting resources is kind of exploratory as well. Still a nuisance some of the time but I'll take the trade-off from the satisfaction of building my first sub.

The map is great, kind of a gameplay element in itself since you have to map it out yourself by exploring Smile Should have been in the game to begin with.

Oh Meh, I thought the discussion was about the concept of an already complete map .....

An automap.. I guess that might have been useful.. ok I agree.. a bit... Very Happy

what else would that hologram that shows the terrain on the subglider-thing do? Looks like something that maps out the terrain. I'm almost thinking they were gonna add a map function but then just didn't bother with it.

instead of a round sprite for your location i do wish it would have an arrow that showed your current direction, other than that its perfect. shows you wrecks too Smile

So when I first tried this game, over a year ago, I just wanted to see how it would be on the Oculus Rift (DK2). I cheated to get to the ground and didnt play for more than 30 mins.

In fact, I though, damn me, because I just spoilered the whole game for me.

After reading the GOTY thread, I saw some people saying this was their GOTY.

So I tried again. This time without the Rift and without cheats.

Fuck me. This game has me hooked like no other game since... I cannot even remember since when. 14h in and I hope I can have that same amount more.

I'm already glad they announced an expansion. Very Happy

You should have plenty of explorative hours ahead, especially if you try to properly scavenge every single area and wreck for the various upgrades/dem mysteries (it took me around 60 hours to see everything). The initial hours are fairly relaxing, but as soon as you head towards the darkness anxiety and uneasiness kick in, such a unique experience.

Definitely my Goty as well this year (with KCD sitting in second place), wish I could use a self-neuralyzer and play it again with a fresh mind.

Early Access done correct Smile

A masterclass in atmosphere, and one of the best games out there ATM. Many could learn from this, but most won't.

Indeed. I have finished the game. Crying or Very sad

Nice soundtrack aswell! (Usually more rock/metal person, but the soundtrack fit the game very well)
