I liked this season (I know it's not popular to like AHS), perhaps because I'm into horror and similar.
Spoiler:
The first two episodes I felt: "what, is this it? some evil drama in a bunker?". Thankfully that was just exposition for what comes after.
Spoiler:
You're not alone ! I enjoyed it too ! The constant turns of events were enjoyable, but it wasn't my favourite season so far by a good margin.
This didn't come as a surprise since I didn't really like Coven either.
The ending was kinda lame though, didn't really make sense considering how powerful Michael was supposed to be.
The fact that only female characters could be good (bar one gay black man) was constantly thrown in your face in such an obvious way that it ended up lowering my enjoyment at some point.
All of the witches/wizards were too stereotypical, and I really struggled to sympathize with any of the Coven members - except for the mean blonde, now that was a rather believable character.
For once, I wouldn't have minded if the bad guys won, kinda
1984 is the ninth season (with a new cast). Meanwhile AHS has been renewed for a tenth season.
Quote:
On August 3, 2018, the series was renewed for a tenth season, set to air in 2020. On December 5, 2018, Murphy said the witches from Coven and Apocalypse will return in a future season, but not in the ninth.
I kinda like the witches seasons. They're a bit too gender political but not to the point of ruining the show.
Season 9 already, wow. I think the last season I watched was s05, with the Hotel (which was nice). Have there been any decent ones since? I stopped after a few episodes into the next one.

I also think the second season was the best one.
Hotel was nice, I liked it as well. Definitely a high point, it has decreased in quality since that season.
The following season, Roanoke, was pretty silly but rather fun taken as a parody of that kind of B-grade story (felt like a videogame at times, not sure it's a compliment ).
The next two were not quite as good imo, one tried to be political but fell flat on its face for me, and the other was about those witches I already hadn't really liked in season 3, still didn't click with me and was overall Charmed-levels of silly - I wouldn't recommend the waste of time unless you're seriously bored.
Nah I reckon they’re worth watching and make your own mind up. Personally I enjoyed both season 3 (Coven) and season 4 (Freak Show). Then let us know what you think

Same thing here. I enjoyed both of those seasons as well.
So after I finish s02 I should skip to this Hotel season and leave it at that?

What headshot said !
I personally found Coven to be pretty stupid as in it doesn't make much sense and most of the characters were annoying in a bad sense (same as the follow-up S8 Apocalypse season which features a lot of Coven's characters); and I just didn't seem to like Freak Show very much - to be fair, I watched all of it but can barely remember anything..
Hotel was just noticeably better than those to me in terms of sheer quality, I also have a soft spot for that kind of story (can't spoil it, sorry !). Whether you like an AHS season or not is largely a matter of taste and sensibility to the central themes of each of them as well, they're pretty equivalent otherwise
