Waited until 2023 to play it. Still full of bugs. It was mostly okay but I think I prefer the 2nd game.

Recurring issues:
  • AI doesn't fight back in fights
  • I saved at one point, had no ammo, and couldn't leave the area to go get more. That was fun.
  • Speech bubble appears instead of attack icon in fights
  • Shooting / healing through walls
  • Fights don't technically end, even though all enemies are dead, so you get stuck places you cannot leave

There wasn't anything really special about it. Every time I reached a boss I figured it'd be this big... thing... but it was always anti-climatic, including the final boss.

I too finally finished the Ranger Expendables 3 made in 'Murica this week and honestly, despite all the free-floating warts, I had a pretty great time with it Very Happy

It's a more streamlined experience than Wasteland 2 DC since it features automatic skill checks along with an unlimited inventory, the UI inevitably went through some mild consolization, there are definitely technical hiccups that can spoil the party and not every piece of the narrative feels logical, but thankfully, the game is structurally old-school and its actual RPG mechanics are solid. The writing is competent (for today's rotten standards, that is) and the quests present quite a few moral choices with shades of grey where actions do have consequences, which is something that always makes me a happy panda.

Although the characters are very much on the whacky side with their over-the-top personalities and pop-culture references, I found them quite fitting. Especially the place that has the ultra-capitalist Gippers worshipping Reagan as god-president on one side of the map, and a fully automated anarcho-communist robot community on the other. Laughing You even get to meet the proper replacement to New Vegas' Fisto, with all that it entails

I wish they'd added more depth to the combat system, but playing around with the various abilities/styles always has its charm. I went with the Ranger Difficulty and invested in Lockpicking early on as well as in at least one of the social skills and other side-abilities that come in handy (Mechanics, Nerd Stuff, Survival for instance), so that one can thoroughly clear out areas and never leave stuff behind. Unlike the original Fallout or ATOM (and similarly to W2), the game is very generous with the available resources, though it makes sense in the context of the Desert fuckyeaâ„¢ Rangers being backed by the Patriarch and taking advantage of their many connections.

So yeah, apart from some annoyances and a few flaccid sections (including the DLCs, as Steeltown is only passable whereas Cult of the Holy Detonation can be skipped altogether), 'twas an enjoyable and relatively hassle-free ride even on my pitiful potato. Props to the OST as well, it had some surprisingly remarkable tracks. Considering our decaying post-apocalyptic gaming world I'd give it 8 Payasos-exclusive clown burgers/10 for the effort, here's hoping inXile won't get swallowed by the relentless pear.

Yeah, the OST was surprising

I had it on Supreme Jerk until I hit the area with no ammo (Steeltown, where you shoot the 3 of 4 pillar things) so I had to put it on the easiest difficulty and use what I had to get through Sad There was only one autosave, and I'd used up all of my regular saves on trying new things to beat that area.

Most fights ended up being: apply burn, bleed and poison then watch the HP fall

I still hope there's another, but I prefer the more desert-like wasteland. Wasteland 2 felt like the isometric Fallout 3 that we never got.
