n order to get the best game play experience, it is not recommended to
run F.E.A.R. at high resolutions. You should avoid resolutions above
1024x768 on any current generation card.
So i would say hes full of it if he think 1600x1200 is playable.

I don't like Carmacks opinion on the role of physics games. He says referring to the aegaia ppu unit) he'd rather prefer to see PC components that allow developers to create even more realistic graphics, he says physics aren't so important for gameplay, they don't really add that much to the experience . He still can't create the photorealistic graphics he'd like.
Well thats his opinion, but imho its quite wrong. We've only seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to physics, imagine te gameplay possibilities with completely physically interactive environments that allow true physical dynamic destruction and realistic water behaviour etc. Don't tell me thats nothing new for gameplay.
And he's acting rather unfair towards other young development studios. Sure, id is big and has money, no wonder they have the time and capital to be able to develop photorealistic graphics (thats one hell of artwork to achieve that, getting so much detail in models and textures thats its photorealistic), but smaller developement studios simply don't have the capital and personell for that, a thing like the ppu is there chance to develop something special, since it allows new technological abilities in PC gaming.

What is it with these damn game-developers and filling every room with enemy soldiers? That does not (in my mind) convey fear, it conveys frustration.
Fear is about suspension, and the unexpected.
"Ooo! Corridor goes black all of a sudden", well ... since this has been used, re-used, recycled, recycled again ... this isn't unexpected at all.
Also... little children that laugh and leave footsteps (ie. in the ceiling) are scary? Since when? It wasn't scary in "The Ring", "Dark Waters", "The Eye", and it isn't scary now either.
I expected that a game would be less about shooting at everything that moves, and more about story/suspension/immersion... I think Deus Ex managed to do this, without clogging every room with someone (or some thing) that wants to be shot dead [since computer A.I and realism, really can't create a believable enemy as of yet].
But if your expectations are the standard "Hollywood scary movie, with flashy effects and action", I'm sure you'll get just what you expected.
Plot twists? Haha... I can almost guess them already... in the end, you'll probably realize you're supernatural, and the FEAR-team will be after you instead.
edit: Either my expectations are too high, or everyone elses are too low ... no matter the case, my point still stands, my expectations weren't met.

1. Every one has a different sense of fear... The demo scareed the hell out of me...
2. Deus ex wasn't an action game... It was adventure/action/rpg... and it wasn't scary at alll
3. Abou the plot twists... I don't reallyt care if the game is fun... I you want a great story with twists play some adventure game... Although even they are quite easy to guess...
4. It's hard to invent something tha has been already invented... It harder to make a really unique game now, cause it's no like the game market is two years old...
