I installed this game a couple of months ago after seeing a video of gameplay on youtube! What a POS! Couldn't aim curser with tons of aweful gameplay...video was bang on and real shitty game!!
4K remake with enchanced multiplayer, including Battle Royale mode . Anyway, jesus SOF II was so damn violent at the time, it was also graphically amazing, very good textures and stuff, still waiting real sequel...
hmm looks good, probably gonna grab the gog release, right now though im up to my neck in rpgs ; i think ive played this back then, cant rememebr for sure, the first one i finished it

SOF2 has this thing about enemies using grenades everywhere, overall the game tries to be a bit more realistic while still a FPS since Mullins had a bigger role and involvement on parts of the game development process for his military advisor role whereas the first game is a bit less realistic for just all out shooting.
(AND ALL THE BASE!)
SOF2 would also extend GHOUL to GHOUL2 and lovelies such as 13 zones of destructible goodness just for the head itself.
Jedi Knight 2 and Jedi Academy also uses this but it's not as gory, g_saberrealisticcombat=1 ups the saber severing quite a bit but also turns it into a ridiculously broken pointer device of doom for the games purposes where nothing really survives even being touched by the thing even outside of combat and contact damage.
(It's fun and it's probably accurate for the laser glow stick of the ancients but well it breaks stuff quite a bit for the gameplay design.)
First SOF just has the better gunplay than the second. Weapons are so unprecise in SOF 2 and it has aged worse. The first is faster and more arcadey and better because of that.
Only thing the second one has over the first is the more detailed damage models - especially the heads of enemies. It's fun to shoot off chunks of the face in the second one, in SOF 1 you can only take off either half the head or all of it.
I never had the chance to play the online properly (living with abysmal internet is something that keeps me company since forever sadly), but I absolutely loved both the single player campaigns
They felt like a hi-octane romp coming straight from the 80s/early 90s action movies, they had challenge, classic bullshit-free linear meaty shooting involving limbs flying everywhere in an accurately choreographical manner (still unrivaled). SoF1 was more akin to Quake's run and gun structure (dat brutal shotgun), while SoF2 suffered from occasional awkward pacing and level design due to the attempt of injecting more realism, though it still worked well. There isn't any third game as far as I'm concerned
It's not too late. Like I mentioned earlier, there are still active servers in NA and EU, including one in Italy for you Cannolikin.
It kinda is though, few years ago it was full with east-bloc cheaters and the competitive scene has died a decade ago. Clanbase doesn't even exist any more.
Sure if you just want to fuck around online... but you won't get the same experience.
