So, it seems I've got ~2-3+ main quests left and I wanted to check how many areas I've been to

3 major cities:

1) Ophir - 2 areas + 1 underground area
2) Noctis - one area
3) Mutant valley - one area

(exploration is severely limited(everywhere), mind you. Basically these cities are just corridors with fake houses and all)

These are the only "major" areas. You'll spend a SHITLOAD of time running back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth,.................... between all 3 cities fighting the same respawning mobs at the same places

4) Valles Marines- just a long canyon or something.

5) Quest Areas (medium size or small, you can finish them really fast)
Atm I've got 7 on my map.

I'm really disappoint. Mostly about "back and forth" aspect of playing this game.

This is really lazy... add to this a pretty mediocre story and quests and..well..yeah..

I used to think they were talented devs that just needed some experience to get it together and release an awesome RPG. Now I think they are just jobbers with low salaries that churn out RPGs on a samey formula. No ambition for more.

Too bad, Mars War Logs showed some glimmers of awesomeness inbetween the blandness and the clunkiness.

Meh I tried getting into it but gave up, this game is just too awful to play after finishing the Blood and Wine expansion.

I finally got around downloading it too and played for some hours this morning (couldn't resist, despite the oppressing backlog), you can't get more Spiders than this really. Razz Not in a negative way though, it's like a trademark, yet it's both a blessing and a curse.

Blessing because it has an interesting, atmospheric setting, a decent amount of freedom in terms of choices-> consequences, a fairly challenging combat system (more varied than Mars and BBF, which is good - with somewhat respectable skill trees), as well as a serviceable story (so far). The performance is pretty good too here, the only compromise was putting the shadows on High in order to maintain 60fps, and the visuals definitely are pleasant and crisp.

Curse because, well, despite being their third game, not much has changed in terms of presentation, and more importantly, in terms of level design.
I don't mind the cheap-ish voice acting and cutscenes, but what has always bothered me about their games, even if they're fun to play, is the fact that the entire world feels static and corridor-like, in a Dragon Age 2-ish way (*ding dong* Mad Laughing), all you do is going from marker to marker like a chore and interactions are limited to a bare minimum.
I was hoping this could improve this time around (and I wish there was some sort of non-invasive visual representation/traveling method instead to alleviate the rinse and repeating), but alas. I think I'll eventually just proceed with the main quest only if backtracking becomes too much to handle.

Still, it's a good budget game for what it is in my opinion (I'll most likely grab it when it's included in a bundle), in the the most unsurprising way, and it's still better than anything Bioware has produced in the last few years, so there's that.
I'm looking forward to meeting the Phobos ( ͡⚆ ͜ʖ ͡⚆)

Takes a while to get used to the combat system so yeah it can be pretty difficult at first when to dodge and when to attack and when not to attack because the enemy is suddenly invincible because you got a few too many hits in in a row. Razz

This game is pretty much War Logs with somewhat better tech and some improvements. If anyone expected a great leap forward, those hopes should've been blasted to bits when they released Bound by Flame. This will pretty much always be a studio with slightly above average games. It's fun, but that's it.

like this?

PS I've been playing on normal as a technomage and so far (the last main quests) I haven't had any problems. I never lock on enemies though. I found the combat easier this way.

I rarely use healing\mana potions.. if I did then the combat would be even easier and faster (I mean killing mobs).

I also got lots of explosives by looting everything (atm I got like 80+ bombs or something and they are DEADLY).

Yeah, definitely there was quite a large amount of backtracking there as well Razz. I believe it's even more noticeable here though, however the cyberpunk/dieselpunk setting is way more interesting and inspired than the generic fantasy one which alleviates the chore a bit. (Same for the dialogues, especially low-quality in BBF).

Maybe you need to switch combat styles or stop using the awful lock function, the combat is actually the only thing I found enjoyable in Technomancer and even on normal the difficulty was ok for me. Warrior or Rogue style works great for me, I didn't like the Guardian style since you are very easily overrun by mobs.

Yep, this is probably the biggest letdown in the game for me. I already had several quests without any flow, during which I just did what needed to be done. You just get too little background info and there's just nothing to discover. When I was presented with the option to help or arrest a certain someone with a bomb, I just facepalmed. Maybe I'm doing the quests out of order or something. Writing is simply bad.

I'm playing Mars War Logs in preparation for this. I managed to stick with it this time, but the quest design is starting to piss me off in a big way.

It's like Dragon Age 2 - but worse. The sidequests are designed around going back and forth in that tiny little camp and picking up pointless crap. If not that, then it's going back and forth between NPCs.

Please tell me this isn't how it plays all the way?

It's frustrating, because I actually like both the character and the combat system. The story is decent - and the characters are appealing in that quirky EU-Gothic style.

But I don't think I can make it if I have to spend the rest of the game doing trivial fetch quests.

It would be better just to skip War Logs and start with Technomancer. There's no need to play War Logs since it was average at best and Technomancer is War Logs with improvements. So I'd advise just to start the improved version instead of wasting time on War Logs.

Thanks, but that doesn't really answer my question Smile

I'm a bit OCD when it comes to games in a series. I don't like skipping any.

So, it's either MWL+Techno or nothing Sad

Your complaint pretty much describes all of their games. Their quest design is just bad, running back and forth all the time. I personally don't like it that much, so I'll probably give up soon and never finish it. Their games have charm and you're constantly hoping it'll improve while playing, but that doesn't seem to hapen (yet again). Sad really.
This isn't exactly a series (or maybe I just forgot everything of importance and can't see the references), so you won't miss anything if you just skip War Logs.

So, both War Logs and Technomancer are full of trivial fetch quests?

In that case, I'll probably just skip it.

To me, that's lazy and terrible game design. I mean, this isn't a huge MMO - so there's no excuse rehashing limited content so blatantly.

Quest design is a bit better in Technomancer. It's their best game yet IMO, but that doesn't say much. Go in with low expectations and you'll most probably like it. War Logs was a straight up budget game, so Technomancer is somewhat better in everything.

Bah, I don't know.

The only reason I'm playing War Logs is that it's supposed to be short, so I have a decent change of finishing it.

I'd much rather be playing Witcher 3 or Fallout 4 - but those are just too overwhelming when I don't have more than a couple of hours here and there.

@Mister_s

It is possible.. Maybe that's why they had to recycle so many times 3 cities and even some small "locked" quest areas.. I'm almost at the end and tbh I've even stopped listening\reading dialogues, I just click through them and I want to finish this game as fast as possible...it got boring and constant "back and forth" routine (even in the end) in addition to mediocre quests, well, it is just too tedious...

From the top of my head: Bulgakov 'choice' (the only choice if you roleplay is following orders), amnesiac girl quest (find dahlia gang coming out of nowhere), Beg's mother quest, Bulgakov not reaching destination according to captain etc.
There is no flow in the questlines, some just end suddenly.

Aaaand I've just finished it.

6 / 10

Disappointing. I didn't expect them devs to abuse so much "back and forth" formula (it often got ridiculous as in you go to the same place twice or more to open exactly the same chest you already opened earlier to get another quest item). Severe lack of new areas (instead they decided to recycle the ones we got) and mediocre quests didn't help either.

"Break The Opposition" Wouldn't know about that...I let them go.

"A memory problem" quest was not cut in my opinion. Like I said before, I was told to talk to the bartender in the slums which I did and he told me about the gang.

"Souvenir for a mother" was also pretty straightforward. Stuff happens after you give her the item Beg asks you to. And later he explains what happened if you ask him about it.

Witcher 3 is great for an occasional 1-2 hour session since it has an excellent quest log and loads of great sidequests that usually don't take so much time to complete. Skip this pile of shit and War Logs if you haven't played Witcher 3 yet.

I just did most of the quests in the second location, I'm bored now. I played War Logs as a budget game and it was fine, but this one is just more of the same in a better looking suit. I think there's no reason to state what I think was wrong with the game, but I agree with most of h0rnyfavn's comments and score.

What a disappointment (of my own making due to expecting too much) this was Sad Their pricing is completely idiotic btw.

Hi everyone,

We've just released a new update for The Technomancer!

This patch contains a number of bug fixes and commonly asked for gameplay improvements. Thanks for all of your comments and feedback - we have been listening carefully!

Here's the full patch notes:

Fixed a bug where you could be blocked in the "Under Threat" main quest.
      Fixed an item duplication exploit
Fixed a bug preventing to complete the tutorial if you changed the binding before starting it
Fixed a bug where the wrong button was shown during the tutorial with a PS4 controller on PC
Fixed animation bugs on the character
Fixed two bugs preventing to complete side quests "Crowd of beggar" and "Extortion under threat" after fleeing from Ophir
      Minor bug fixes
      Stability improvements
      Minor UI improvements

    Gameplay:
Implementation of a key that toggles walking or running, bound on "Caps Lock" by default
Rework on the loot/drain binding system in keyboard/mouse controls: Loot will now always be bound on "interaction 1" (E) and drain on "interaction 2" (A)
'Easier' Easy Mode - Following player feedback, we've reworked Easy difficulty to be more accessible. This is ideal for anyone who wants to enjoy the story without investing too much time into combat. Shocked

The only fucked up thing balance-wise was mobs doing ridiculous damage. I didn't have a problem with that coz I was using "acrobat stance" Laughing and casting spells.
