If I remember correctly, Extraction Point was good but Perseus Mandate was terrible.

F.E.A.R. is too long for its own good and with very little variation.. I haven't managed to finish it twice.
I start playing, enjoy the crap out of it, but a few hours later I go "oooookay, I've had enough of the same looking cubicles, warehouses and soldiers. It's uninstall time". Great game, needs either more visual variety or to be shorter.
F.E.A.R. XP has more of the same good gameplay but a crappy story. But for an expansion (which usually stands for "more of the same") it's a good game (because it offers exactly that; more of the same).
F.E.A.R. PM has an even worse story AND entirely different gameplay. There are new enemies and they behave entirely different than in the previous 2 F.E.A.R. games, so while it might seem similar, if you actually get to play it you realize it plays much differently. Not a good game.
F.E.A.R. 2 has much greater visual variety than the original but it's not as good of game. Decent for a play through, but that's it. However at least the story unlike the expansions of the first game, is interesting again.
F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn, is a compressed F2 experience so I usually play that over F2.
F.E.A.R. 3 has a meh story, but at least it's about the characters of the original game. The gameplay is arcade-ish and brutal. Very different from the previous ones, but I found the fast pace kinda fun. Since it's co-op focused, all the scares, the atmosphere etc have been removed. Maybe not for everyone, but personally I liked it.

Looks like someone liked the fast paced action packed F3 gameplay as much as I did

F.E.A.R. 3 was certainly better than 2, but the first game is still the king in my book.

For me it was:
FEAR 1 : probably the best gunplay and AI that I've ever had the chance to see in a first person shooter. The level design wasn't as good as those aspects, but still far from being bad. A true classic.
FEAR 2: weaker gunplay, far more consolized, with some uninspired and awkward story moments..a FEAR Green Pear Edition but still somewhat enjoyable if you keep your expectations low.
FEAR 3: the gunplay + dynamic cover system did actually work well in this one. But it felt more like a spin-off than a real sequel, with the extremely generic look, and almost no atmosphere at all. It lost all the magic..a wasted opportunity if you ask me.
IMO

The ai in Condemned1 is also very good.

I'm probably the only one that ranks FEAR XP and Perseus Mandate above FEAR 2 and FEAR 3, but I shall not be moved.

Yep.
As crappy as it was the gameplay was really more of the same. But in that case that meant that it was as solid as the one in FEAR and XP and still above of the 2nd rate gameplay from FEAR 2.

It's actually a pleasant analysis, and the urge to reinstall the game arises..(must resist)
The iconic AI really was something special for a 2005 game, which is also quite melancholic when you think that the progress in this specific gaming field has been minimal in the last decade, like an Artificial Inhibition. The player has to feel AAAwesome

Minimal? At best I would label said progress nonexistent, and at worst (which is more often the case then not), I'd say AI tech has regressed from the level that was displayed in F.E.A.R. 11 years ago.
There's simply been no push at all to make AI behave more realistically. Developers have simply taken the lazy way out and either allowed it to cheat outright (like in RTS' and turn-based strategy titles where it starts with more resources and/or is given a resource multiplier), or simply is given inhuman reflexes, accuracy, and an insane damage boost (take any SP campaign shooter in the last half decade or so).
However, try as I might, I simply can't accept that all of the fault lies with the console tard consumers. I think more or less equal blame can be attributed to both sides - the programmers are lazy/incompetent and the players simply don't care. Everyone's more or less given up.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.
