I'm tempted just to try DayZ...
please tell me not to buy it Razz

I like ArmA 2 "vanilla" too (both in SP and MP) so for me would be a buy it, but for DayZ-only..considering that the mod will go stand-alone soon, I don't know. Razz

It's a good deal even without DayZ Ixi. I would go for it. Hell, even the Editors are fun.

Oh I 100% agree with you, if one likes the BI games it's a great deal since with that money you get 2 campaigns, standard MP and the big "bonus" DayZ Razz

We're playing regular arma 2 (non arrowhead) CTI, Its very nice like a mix of FPS/RTS in one.
also on custom maps like Taviana, Isla duala, and some custom vehicles.

Its based on a old BE script (without AI leaders) but each player can control up to 18 units.

One downside is that ARMA2 free users can also join when we play cherno, script kiddies fucking up a long session of warfare is a pain in the ass, besides that there is lot of noobs that have no clue what the hell they are doing.

When that tends to happen we switch to a custom maps, then all there is left are serious players.

gunnyswarhouse.com, Come play some CTI sometime (there isnt much CTI servers left for arma2 besides the russian ones) this server is located in USA.

how can free players join..? your server is set to combined operation rights? so when you run arma 2 content like cherno map it will still use arrowhead key which doesnt allow arma free players. If cheaters are an issue make sure you got BE running and signature check enabled( latter is what is usually the culprit cause ppl can use ANY addon cause of it ).

That's the latest beta client and yes they are updating the content format but it should only have affected the Steam program updates.
(The Steam "app" file format should have converted to ACF a while ago but some titles still use GCF, I've got about four of those installed and they are probably going to stay that way for a while yet.)

I wouldnt play any of arma's campaign stuff. Its a bit lacking to be honest. Forget SP unless its player made mission stuff or mp. o7

I have no experience with the yarr versions of arma 2 either, sorry Very Happy

Doenst matter which release you use, as long the key isn't blacklisted thus not activating Fade.
Finding one of those may be the hardest part but you can find it right here, and it worked fine even with 1.60 when I last tried.
Ontop of that you can also the addons, BAF and PMC, including their campaigns Smile

While your at it you can join our server with ARMA2 free, CTI Warfare (best game mode ever I still play it daily)

I mean there are so many different releases, there's ArmA 2 Anniversary Edition, AO, Combined Ops... it's just unclear to me which version includes most of the stuff I should need.

At any rate, thanks for the invitation, but doesn't ArmA 2 free come with utter shite gfx? If so, then it's not for me, sorry.

hm didn't know that the free to play version even existed, sounds cool. so ive done some research and i found a page with the differences between each "edition". at the end of the page a table:

http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ARMA2_PackageCombination

it says: no hd gfx for the free to play edition, but i dont know what they mean by that, maybe some graphical tweaks are not available dual its large battle scale (dont know?) or do they mean like the resolution is crap? well think i give it a go, if a game is addicted and good the gfx doesn't really matter. and i say that as the graphical whore i am. lol sry for my English Razz

they mean "the textures will be a blurry mess" by saying "no hd gfx"

Go for Combined ops if you only care for ARMA2 and Arrowhead, Anniversary Edition is a complete package with operation flashpoint, ARMA1 etc.
If you want to play the old operation flashpoint / resistance (masterpiece) campaigns you should get the CWR mod (I recommend you), this got all the campaigns redone on ARMA2 and it even supports JSRS soundmod for more epicness

forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?152275-Cold-War-Rearmed%C2%B2-Public-Beta

cwr2.arma2.fr/

Ye, ARMA2 Free is stuck on low res textures, but you can use this to play multiplayer.
If you're lucky you can use this KEY on original ARMA2, I never tried it but who knows.
