I like their store! Lots of freebies to be had in the upcoming weeks.
I'm someone who likes to have everything on Steam but because I used to play Fortnite for a long time, I'm kinda used to having the Epic Launcher around. I wouldn't mind to have the one or other game on it, oppose to something like the Bethesda launcher...
The Epic "Store" feels modern oppose to Steam Store Frontend and Software. Steam needs a revamp, badly. Also, IMO they let just about anyone on board just to earn their sales commission and with that it's sometimes hard to filter out the good AA-AAA games between all of the indie junk.

No regional pricing either which seems like a pretty big omission and it's getting a lot of criticism.

Yeah, everything is just so barren and simplistic...it's basically designed with the Awesome button(tm) in mind for clueless transactions, purchase first and ask questions later.
On the bright side, and as someone who has no intention of buying from there, at least it seems the games can get yarred easily   |

The Ashen game has no protection? Didn't have a crack in the crack folder??

How can I force my companion to follow me? He often refuses to follow me or just sits on the ground
And I can't progress further coz I need his help to open the stone doors.  The fucker just keeps sitting at the waterfall. I killed all the mobs.

Just yarr it.
Exclusivity horse shit has no reason to be on PC, and this is not how to compete with Steam.
With the extra cash going to the publisher/devs, they can probably afford to have minor sales every month or something to get people in.
But even then I'd prefer if they didn't have me install another launcher. I don't really want to install too many things on my PC.

Agree. besides the video footage for both ashen and below didnt seem that convincing to me.
Ashen looks like a dsouls lite with less game mechanics and a not so interesting story.
Below seem barren bland and desolate.
Those are just impressions from some gameplay videos so might be wrong but i'd rather be cautious.

After some time spent questioning whether I should bother with yet another discount souls, I decided to grab a trusty two-handed ash-infused Runic Axe and went for it (took me about 15 hours).
It was easier than the real deal, with little enemy/loot/build variety and filled with generic fetch quests, but the competent combat system and the natural open levels managed to be interesting enough to provide a rewarding explorative pacing. The AI companions are absolutely bonkers though, they're either bloody Terminators or pears who get lost all of a sudden and ignore you when you're down because they need to chase some random distant enemy like angry badgers 
Still, despite some awkwardness the offline mode is definitely doable. I'd give it a 6,5/10 for the effort, inferior to The Surge, Nioh and Salt and Sanctuary in my opinion (not to mention the Souls dads) but it is an alright low-budget texture-less gimped clone.
