i remember when red bull was illegal here as well, so we got it from austria (where it comes from). Back then, it a LOT more taurin and coffein in it. Today's Red Bull is nowhere near that strong anymore (way less). The original red bull was boosting as hell. Now its like drinking a cup of coffee , literally (same amount of coffein). If memory servers me right, that was before austria entered the EU (so they had different standards i guess).
Anyway, all red bull is good now, is to mix it with vodka 
edit : actually it wasn't as much forbidden, as it took ages to allow it (technically not the same thing).
In France it was actually illegal until 2008 and only after they changed taurin to arginin , making the whole thing kinda nonsense hehe.

7 / 11 had exclusive rights but I think it's done now, I see em everywhere, bought it from freshco and no frills already

I don't think I've actually ever had that. I know a lot of gamers out here bought cases of them during our lan parties though.
