PC gaming is pretty big in Japan.... really no difference. They get on IRC just like us, have PC gaming forums with PC gaming elitist. For example, A lot of JRPGs were released on PC only in Japan.. such as Lunar: Silver Star Story etc.

Yeah, there's a lot of classic DOS/Win32 RPGs that were never released outside of Japan.. sucks. It's only now, 30 years later, idiots like Squeenix are saying "Oh... we didn't realise, but it seems that people in the West really like jRPGs! Perhaps we should localise more?"

I actually like their artstyle, even if others think it's over the top..
IMO games should be over the top with their designs.. that's why they are games..

Another great video by Jim, who is consistently entertaining me lately Smile Square-Enix is a goddamn travesty of a once legendary company and it's no wonder they keep posting ball-shrivelling losses. Jim's point about SE's constant visual and engine changes is absolutely spot-on also.

Yup, Final Fantasy IP is the perfect tool to show how fucked up they are. Even my fiancee whinges that they only seem to cater for the 'douchebags' and 'bitches' with the looks and attitude their characters get lately.

Let alone the constant changing of battle systems and the ridiculous over the top stories.
I'm not into Jim Sterling that much (I hardly follow shows like that), but that rant was spot on for me.

Sheeiiiiiiit, I no longer trust them to even not fuck that up.

And I'm quite tired of seeing the same shit each derpsole generation from the PS2 onwards... "FF7 remake rumored, it's this time guys! lol wut"

i dont want the squarepenis assholes anywhere near my beloved old ff games, fuck these motherfuckers Evil or Very Mad
seeing what they did with advent children i can only imagine what an eventual ff7 remake would be like Crying or Very sad

the only remnants of old square can be found in monolith soft and mistwalker.

I would rather see a new, good FF game than a remake of an old hit, however nostalgic and cult that hit might be.

Honestly, I find it hard to understand why exactly they seem so unable to do it, since the recipe for success seems so damn obvious. Just go back, squeenix. Analayze your older games, read what people liked about them and then make a new one, but using every bit of power you can sqeeze out of current hardware. And stop repeating "it's not possible", "the scale would be to big", "bla bla bla, bla bla". Look around! Other studios have been doing it for a while now, you're just very fucking behind. Look at TES games, if you don't believe it's possible to create a huge, fully 3D world ripe for exploration. Hell, look at your pals at Capcom and their Dragon's Dogma if you want something a bit closer to your formula. Or, better yet, Monolith's Xenoblade Chronicles! It can be done. It's been done. Just get your heads out of your assess and start working. And, please, mind the style/substance ratio (see batman figurine for reference).

Finally, for fuck's sake, please don't die. I really want my Deus Ex fix.

Yup, the original stars that made all the greatest Square games aren't even working for Square-Enix any more. Half of them are at MistWalker with Sakaguchi and the other half are at MonolithSoft. I do completely agree with Aquma that this shouldn't be a difficult thing to do, it's just SE's bullshit way of hemorrhaging money by creating new engine after engine, then sinking hundreds of millions into flashy graphics and tacking them onto flashy combat systems that invariably annoy and ostracise the fanbase.

It's ridiculous.

You didn't know? Very Happy Yeah man, Xenoblade Chronicles X is coming out for the WiiU and it looks outstanding. Not as visually stunning as the teaser they released a year ago, this is the year of the downgrade after all, but it looks absolutely incredible nonetheless.

Oooh, texture mods, interesting. I tried it out a while back after hearing good things about it and thought it looked pretty rough. I was busy at the time though, so put it aside and never got back to it. Might have to give it another look when I get a chance.

FF games where never about huge explorablorable worlds and thats not something i want or expect from them anyway just enough exploration to not get lost like they did in the old games would be fine and a good story without some unlikeable androgynous fucktards in funny clothes as the protagonists.

I absolutely disagree there, as every single FF title from FF1 through to FF9 all had enormous explorable worlds. Often multiple worlds too, such as underworlds, the Moon, Dark worlds, alternate dimensions, post-ruin worlds.. etc. FF10 cut back on the exploration enormously, 10-2 added more, 12 had some of the largest and most explorable areas but it played/looked/felt like an MMO.
