i want more alan wake... far as im concerned the only things they have to do is not make it like american nightmare, continue to focus on story, and remove that retarded zooming-out shit whenever enemies arrive.
oh, and dont publically tell people what you're going to do, and then reverse it.
finally, i dont care if you focus on consoles and release it there first, in fact id almost prefer it... take your time after the games out, and do a proper pc port like you did last time, show us some love.

You know what, at first I was against the "decision" ( ) to make it linear, but once I played it..well I definitely changed my mind about that.
The only thing that it would need (imo) is more variety overall and different enemies. Also I agree with Chiv, didn't really like AN's arcadish feel, it broke the atmosphere and sense of immersion (which are the most important aspects in this game).

I still stand by wish about wanting an open-world AW. A sandbox experience with side quests.

Alan Wake being open world makes even less sense than Max Payne 3 being open world, and I remember making fun of the R* fanboys when the first MP3 trailer was released their reactions were like "OMG, is it openworld? Free roaming is in? Does Max have lots of costumes and can he drive any car in the game?? I want to roam the favelas and chose the missions I want to do! Yeahhhh!!"
No.. That's not fucking Max Payne.

I still want to see and play their initial open-world prototype before the time when MS barged in making them quicken their pace on the game's development and essentially scrap that idea.

You do know that's not why they scraped that idea, don't you?! I really don't understand why some of you think every game is better with an open world.

I actually don't know why (maybe Remedy needed more time to fine-tune their model, but never had it since MS's arrival). I'm just curious to see how it could've played out, had it been open-world. Never said it could've been better this way.

It has nothing to do with that. Can't really be bothered to explain, so just read this:
http://www.vg247.com/2012/02/20/alan-wake-was-built-on-an-open-world-engine/
Also, I don't like the game anyway. I appreciate it, but I don't like it or rather I don't like playing it. And I do think that if this was an open-world game it would have been much worse.

Quicken the pace = release 5 years later? I don't think so..
The only unfortunate change MS dictated was to cancel the PC version.
The open world aspect was scrapped for narrative reasons.

Not at the technical requirements that were displayed in the old demos. Or will you argue that GTA4 (or what has been seen in 5) is technically as advanced?

It wouldn't be set in a highly populated city so why compare it to GTA? We've seen what kinds of environment the early builds had and they were pretty much the same as in the retail game meaning not a city full of vehicles, people etc.
Look at the credits of GTA and then of AW and tell me how would such a much much smaller team (that spent 5 years to make a linear game) would be able to pull off the GTA psychological thriller people are dreaming.

Those who want Alan Wake open world, just go play Deadly Premonition. Great game if one is to overcome it's terrible graphics etc.
Alan Wake is great tho. American Nightmare is interesting but nothing more and defo not the way for AW2 to go

You said console has open-world games, I took the best examples of it. What other games would propose that better suit the comparison? What other console game presents a similar depth to its engine as the original PC demos did?
Whether the development team could or could not, that is beside the point. In their original demos, they clearly had a direction in mind, and at the same time Microsoft stepped in, suddenly that direction changed completely to the moronic "follow the white light" bullcrap that we have today.

True but "American Nightmare" hit the PC pretty fast. |
because its a low budget xbox live title.
its nothing compared to the actual Alan Wake game. its more of a minigame you would expect to play within the actual game. its fun, but you won't talk about it to your grand kids.
bastards will get a check from MS for exclusivity knowing our luck. and more hitler vids will be up on yotube in no time.

Microsoft is open to Alan Wake 2; “Remedy has to want to make the game”
| Quote: | For a long time we thought that Microsoft was against a sequel to Remedy’s Alan Wake. However, it appears that this is not the case anymore. Or at least this is what Xbox’s Phil Spencer implied in a recent interview with Stevivor.
As Phil Spencer when he was asked about it, Remedy has to want to make the game.
“How do I put this? Well, the developer… the developer has to want to make the game.”
Ironically enough, Remedy did show Alan Wake 2 to Microsoft in the past, however at that time Microsoft was not really interested in it.
As Remedy’ Sam Lake claimed back in 2015.
“We showed [Alan Wake 2] to Microsoft and I guess at the time Microsoft was looking for something slightly different for their portfolio.”
It will be interesting to see whether Microsoft will, after all, give the green light to Alan Wake 2, and whether Remedy is willing to develop it. |
