I'm not a creationist but a devout servant of Time.

Come on S.S.S, even the Bible says that time didn't always exist. There was even an epic battle with Arians in part because of that.

One of my assistants told me that there are physicists who do physics without the time as a variable, and that time is an illusion... I tried googling it out but I couldn't find anything interesting or useful on that subject :\

Cool scientist teachers are only in movies.
IRL they're just dry talk and now fun.

I think it's the other way around - interaction between something produces time.

Feynman said: All mass is interaction, which if the higgs bozon is found could very well be true. But time... well time is a tricky bugger Very Happy

You cannot really say what it is, only see the effects that happen as 'time flows'. And it does flow, we have thermodynamics as a phenomenological 'discipline' that says that on macroscopic scale you cannot neglect the 'arrow of time'.

On the other hand on microscopical scale you have time invariance, which says: it doesn't matter how you turn the flow of time (arrow), the evolution of the system is basically invariant to it (especially true for hermitian Hamiltonians, or just PT symmetric Hamiltonians).

The CPT violation (charge - parity - time spontaneous symmetry breaking) is one of the active area in physics and is very much alive and interesting. Because if there weren't some kind of thing that started this breaking of the symmetry in the universe we wouldn't be here...

This just came to me while drinking my morning coffee Smile

However, all that becomes rather vague when you take into consideration that time is variable depending on relative velocity and gravity wells, ie. time is different (relatively).

Is time simply a function of a quantized universe, ie. a property on the same level as the fabric of space? Or is it simply an interpretation of changing waveforms?

I like how Feynman says it:

Quote:
Maybe it is just as well if we face the fact that time is one of things we probably cannot define (in the dictionary sense), and just say that it is what we already know it to be: it's how long we wait!
What really matters anyway is not how we define time, but how we measure it.

Very Happy
