True, but I feel like I already missed the opportunity ... I have to concentrate on my career now, which I hope is heading for a job with the federal govt. That means I pretty much have to continue working in this country if I want to do that. So I'm kinda stuck here now! |
What is it you do again? Dont you do programming?
I'd think there would be a demand for cpu programmers in europe, they use computers to
I know what your sayin. I guess thats one benefit of being in trades. Im not really stuck at a job. I make good money and my qualifications are in demand. Dont get me wrong, it isnt easy as pie finding a job, its just not super difficult.
Could you take a leave from work for a year and travel? Maybe not now but if you set it up and all? |
I do statistical analysis and programming, but the job requires knowledge of health and epidemiological concepts. It's actually pretty light on the actual programming, plus it's not something I can do forever. I really only took this job I have now because I had some experience using the programming language (SAS) and it pays well ... but I really would like to do something more practical in my field (also not in a cubicle )
This is what I'd like to get into:
http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/cfep-pcet/about_e.html
... which is a field epidemiologist training program with the public health agency of canada (training program that pays 60K/year, no tuition or anything).
They send you out to do outbreak investigations all over the country, which sounds right up my alley. I have the required education to get in (you needs a masters degree), but I'm going to have to work for a local public health department to gain some practical experience.
It is an internationally recognized training program, so I guess I could do the same thing in EU. Only problem is that I don't see this happening for 4 or 5 years, and by that time I'll probably be married and having kids and shit! |
Sounds pretty interesting.
You could move to europe for a few years even if you had kids. Let them experience europe culture a little. Then move back to Canada.
Seems like you'd have alot of options in your field.

LOL I know a guy who got crabs that way. LOL
When I was working they would put job posting up for different countries. There were quite a few for the rural parts of China along the Yangtze. Some kind of floating house boat lab. Think about Epi Field work you could do over there. Poverty, famine, changing ecosystems, weather, like flooding. Water born pathogens alone. Field work in Canada or parts of Europe would be a walk in the park after that. I remember the money was good Really good. It was for a microbiologist position.
I am sure Canada is safer and more practical.

yeah, perhaps someday down the road that could be a possibility. I guess what I meant was I missed the 'go to europe and have sex with half the female population and get stoned and drunk everynight' boat
There are lots of opportunities in epi ... almost every country has some sort of public health agency, so any one of those would do |
See if your girl will get down like that Nothing wrong with 'experimenting' right?
