I would say that you definitly have a short in one of your heaters, pumps etc. I would doubt that it has anything to do with iron concentration in your blood etc.

Every one has a electrical potential, some of us greater than others. Everyone also has a different resistivity in there body. These 2 factors alone could attribute to why you are suseptable to the shock and others are not.

How extreme is the shock? Is it like static shock where you get a sudden snap then nothing, or is it like a prolonged zap. If you have ever shocked yourself with 120V you will know the difference. Smile

I would say increasing grounds would be of no help becasue if you are using 3 prong plugs for your equipment then you are grounded enough. If it is a ground problem it would be a bad or noisey ground in your house wireing.

Also switching between salt and fresh water will make no difference becasue the shock is being caused by an external source, so you would not be fixing the problem; just making the effects slightly less.

And remeber that every single moving part in your setup will casue static, and if you are not grounded you eventually will get a shock once the potential is greater than your bodys natural potential.

Oh a btw, you are never supposed to put your hand in your tank when your system is electrified, well at least thats what the manuals say. Smile I take it that you probably have a sump tank right? just plug your inflow to the tank(via a check valve etc), switch off the power, then clean your tank. Smile

Kinda off topic
I have a 165 gallon fresh water with a 33 gallon sump.
3 silver arowanas, 4 clown loaches,and a huge common pleco. Post picks of your tank, and ill put up some of mine.

Cheers

edit: Just thought of this. To try and find the device thats casuing the shock; just plug in one device at a time then take the plunge. No zap, move to the next device. I have bought new pumps that have been faulty/leaky out of the box.

Oh and Syco. Your a cheese ball. Smile

In my case
how extreme is it , well i can turn a light bulb for 5 sec when i hold it in my hand and THATS spooky Shocked

I dunno Hfric...I'd have to see that man. Im not an electrical engineer or anything but i dont think the body can produce enough electricity/electrical current to light a light bulb.
I assume those levels of electricity would fry your heart as they pass over it.

This is a perfect thread for Animal...Laughing

I swear everything is grounded. Maybe I should get an Ome meter or something like that. The shock is pretty bad. Enough that these candy assed guys made a funny screaming sound when I touched them.

@bigperm
Ok I will post some pictures of both my tanks, fresh and salt water. The salt water is the coolest. I don’t think I have a sump tank, not sure what that is. It has a protein skimmer, heater, filter, 2 light system.

Salt water I have some zoo’s, anomalies, clown fish, my pistol shrimp, cleaner shrimp, banded shrimp, gobys, and those damn damsels.

Freshwater is sharks ( had 2 huge parrot ciclides but lost them) Pleacos, There is a goldfish that was bought for food that didn’t get eaten and he is still swimming around. I have other stuff in there I can’t remember the name.

Fresh water is 60 gallons, salt is 30.

I like your idea of trying everything one at a time. I might do that tomorrow if I have time.

Ohhh and don’t you be calling my syco a cheese ball, or else I will find you and kick your ass.

@Hfric

I think that light bulb lighting thing is normal. I can light up a whole fourencen tube if I hold it around any power lines. You link is cool, I might post something from it later if I don’t go to bed.

Damsels suck. My old room mate had a 80 galon salt water and we had a bitchy damsel. Fucking teritorial bitch; would attack my hand when i was feeding the bubble anenomy (cant spell) . We put or damsel in the sump tank. Smile

A sump tank is like your filter. Ie. My tank has an over flow that is plummed into a 33 gallon tank bellow it. This tank works as my filter, then i have a pump that brings the filtered water back to my tank. It so i dont have to have any visibile filters etc in my tank.

Dont buy an ohm meter. I doubt any reading you will get will help track down the casue. Just use the elimination method and find the defective device. The shock you are getting sounds more like a short than static by how you describe the severity.

oh, and btw if i was rambling. Its becasue of the wine, and the reason i drank the wine found in the bitching section.

@bigperm
Post some pictures of your tanks so I can see them if you still have it. Ya the damsels are really bitchy but are easy to keep. I only go for fish that are easy to keep and try to stay away for the captured from wild. Ethics of it. I really love some of the puffers (dog face) but they are too hard to keep. They have some of the most deadlyposion in the world. I think it is a neurotoxin. There is some program here where they are studying it’s on helping heroin users kick the habit. I like things that are poisonous. They fascinate me. My fish dealer can get me a blue ring octopus and I am so tempted. I definitely can’t be sticking my hands into the tank then.

As you can see from the algae my phosphate is too high, plus the sun hits this one.

Fresh water 60 gallons

I turned the power bar off and no shock. It is a prolonged zap but it is weird it doesn’t happened to anyone else. I was just joking about the ohm meter

That is actually a picture of my pistol shrimp. He has a super sonic boom thing in his claw that scares the shit outta anything that comes near him. I can his him pop all the way in my bedroom

OMG don't you be talking about lobster. They are senitive animals. They mate for life you know. (Atlantic ones anyway). They migrate and form underwater chains) If you eat one then it's lobster partner doesn't have a lobster lover anymore. How sad is that. I have eaten it before and I love the taste but I know better. I don't boil anything alive, I kill anything as quick as possible. I don't even fish for fun, only for food. These animals have souls and you need to have respect for that.

I catch crab all the time from my dad's boat and I kill them with an axe (chop them in half and clean out all the guts) before I cook them. All the toxic stuff (dioxen sp) is in the guts anyway. You know what the trick is with crab. White pepper, and boil them with garlic and soy sauce.

they dont really scream, its just the steam escaping the shell of the lobster. there are a few tricks if you feel uncomfortable with cooking a live lobster. start cooking it at cold water rather than throwing it into boiling water, this will put the lobster to sleep, so will putting the lobster on his back for a few minutes on the kitchen counter Wink

gotta love being married to someone whose dad has lots of friends in the fishing industry Very Happy he gets all sorts of seafood for free all the time, especially Sockeye Salmon. every time we go up to campbell river for a visit his freezer is stacked with seafood and we go home with two filled bags Wink

@werdercanuck

Good to know your advice but I still wont be cooking anything live.

I am totally jealous over the sea food. Ohhh love it. Salmon, To be honest I usually go for the farmed Atlantic or pink. Sockeye is a bit dry, you gotta be careful with the cooking. Pink is cheap but still is good BBQ. I do mine in Cilantro, sun dried tomatoes, and garlic (with other stuff) that everybody talks about for days. The only thing is I can’t eat it frozen, it has to be fresh. More like, I am not comfortable serving frozen. There are some prawns that I will buy frozen but only a certain brands. I am really fussy. Even frozen in milk I don’t enjoy frozen fish. Lots of people freeze in milk to kill the fishy taste but I don’t. I would rather spend the extra money and do something right. If it is frozen for maybe 3 or 4 days that might be ok, but you really have to watch it.

The meat in farmed is totally differnt from wild. Farmed is not firm, but I find the taste ok. I catch salmon in those areas where they have the fish farms and it is coved in sea lice. You paddle in and the water changes colors. I don't believe those areas would have sea lice problems if it wasn't from the fish farms. And there is that stinky smell.

Smoked salmon is the best. I love smoked salmon. Esp locks.

Heres some pics of my tank

This is my tank as of yesterday

This is before i finished the arborite around the stand. You can see my sump tank

This is a bad picture of the arrownanas

This is a picture of the first day i got my arrowanas. His fins got totally messed up my the net at the pet store. There almost perfect now.

A more recent picture, i know its pour quality. But you can see that there fins have healed

My tank looks a little empty but i want to grow my arrowanas to about 3/4 of a meter to a meter long.

@wedercanuck

I dated a girl that worked at a seafood restaurant. We were they after hours and put like 20-30 lobsters (Every one that was in the tank) to sleep by rubbing there tails and setting them on there heads. The entire bar was covered in sleeping lobsters. I love that trick. Smile

haha I saw picture inside your house. Nice shiny floors!

Your tank is so clean looking, no black hair algea, no colored water from wood.

You tank looks good but it needs some plants. I think plants make that black hair aglea in a fresh water tank but still it looks better. A wood log with plants tied to it looks good too. The plants spread like crazy after they get going.

Arrownanas are really cool, and expensive. Some of them are microchipped just to prove they are breed in captivity.

Well i have a cat as well.

@Pistol.

Yea, i know i need some plants, but im not sure if my Arrowanas will eat them etc.

The arowanas that are micro chipped are ushally Asian Arrownas. I can not afford these. A 5 year old Royal Red Arrowana pair will set for 60G + at a pet store.
