There's nothing new about the New World Order, it's just a variant of countless world orders before it.
West: USA is the bully, controlling other countries by coercion, economical tools etc. and forming pseudo-alliances with various national leaders (which is more like a one-way relationship where US is the major beneficiary of such a relationship).
East: China has historically been the dominating force in eastern Asia, both culturally and politically. It's not the same nation as in their long imperial tradition history (nothing lasts forever) but with the Cultural Revolution they worked towards becoming a power again and today they are the major power over there. After losing the war in 1945 Japan became defeated/impotent as a power and they had to drop all their dreams of imperial conquest and focus on becoming a functioning and hard-working nation.
Inbetween west and east: Russia, another failed "empire" (USSR) that couldn't keep up with the US due to the stagnant milieu of it's stale and soul destroying communism. Towards the end some politicians already knew where things were going and prepared for the inevitable in order to secure a future Russia. Gorbachev took the biggest step. During a flawed coup Gorbachev was deposed. Yeltsin arrived and removed Yanayev (the man behind the coup) and reformed Russia into a...well.. "Federal dominant-party semi-presidential constitutional republic". Since Putin reached the top we've seen him become the go-to man for other wannabe dictator-like leaders that can change the rules to secure their own position.
Those three are in my eyes the three main powers in the world and it's the current world order. Obviously each of those nations are doing everything they can to keep their positions secure. The rest of the nations only have various co-starring or bit-part roles to play.
