Zero is a great (and the official) starting point, it's really, really good and it's my favorite one in the series so far. (I've played every single one + some of the spin offs)
From then if you enjoy it you can continue with Kiwami and Kiwami 2.
Kiwami 2 was developed using the new Dragon engine, which was used in Yakuza 6, so the graphics are definitely better. While Kiwami is using the same engine as Yakuza 0.
Y0 is actually 75% off on Steam, so it's a great deal for a game in which you can sink close to 100 hours.
Hopefully we should see 3-6 on PC soon, I expect it to be early next year. (according to the latest information)
7 (Like a Dragon) is treated more as a soft reboot of the series, so if you want to start there you can, but I think there is a possibility that you may miss on some inside jokes, cameos etc.

Yeah zero is definitely the best. No competition. The rest are good too though, but for me there is no competition.

I'm loving all the side stuff and I'm getting into the main story as well!
The only thing I don't like is the movement but it's no biggie as such. Can't believe I waited this long to play it. |
On the bright side, you now have a somewhat lengthy series to enjoy!

Zero and 2 ( or Kiwami 2) are the best ones, in that order.
All of them are really good games, but not a series you can play back to back or you will burn yourself out since game world doesnt change alot between most games.

Kiwami 2 is a curious choice
Spoiler: | Since it tries to change the direction a bit with the love story and all and swiftly discards it in the third game. I'd say 2 is kinda junk, would be much better with that love story cut. |

I was planning to play this one while waiting for cyberbunk, but steam says no:
Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: Denuvo Anti-Tamper
The game isn't worth full price imho, such a shame.
