So to make some sort of ranking (excepting Souls series):
1. The Surge 2
2. The Surge 1
3 Code Vein and Hellpoint depending on what you prefer.
Hmm... I'm currently playing Code Vein (companion-free) and I must say I strongly prefer it to both Surges. I guess it boils down to which setting/aesthetics one prefers.
Anyway, I guess I'll try this one after I'm done with Code Vein.
It just happened to me. The inventory menu bugged and wouldn't go away, so I quit. When I went back in a bunch of items were randomly duplicated into other items, so no I'm missing a ton of stuff but other items I have multiple times, including materials, key items, etc. This absolutely sucks. Apparently I put 6 hours in already, was basically doing SL1 since I couldn't decide on what to spec into so I was just running around with the pipe you get at the start Game is fantastic besides the bugs. Clearly a lot of love and polish went into it since that original demo I tried. I guess I'll have to wait for updates. In terms of world and lore this might be the most interesting game in the subgenre besides actual From Soft titles. The lack of diversity in areas doesn't bother me much as the different districts are still somewhat different from each other. However, enemy diversity seems to be a bigger problem. It's not awful, but...

It feels crushing to tell you not to play it as the game itself is awesome, but with the potential of that bug kicking in at any point, you'll probably just get annoyed with the game. It's best to wait for them to iron out the major bugs I think.

A possible workaround would be to find the save file on windows , quit and back it up as you go along. If the bug hits, just "reload" to the older file and keep going

It's nice they've been quick about it, but yeah, I figured my save is pretty much fucked. It's whatever, I'll just start over. I'll leave it a bit more, just in case some other issue pops up.

The game has a lot of problems. Performance is all over the place despite being visually dated. The camera messes up a lot. The targeting system is completely unreliable. Some bosses have weird hitboxes. It's missing sound effects and visual glitches can be found around any corner.
On the plus side, it has a nice atmosphere and that sense of discovery. The combat and progression system are not too shabby either.
The developers definitely tried to do more than they could handle. A few more months in the oven would have done wonders.

I absolutely love this game... I keep going through new areas and each one is so complex with an insane amount of secrets. There's so much love and work put into this game. It's no wonder there's bugs left and right (and it is a big shame about them messing up the game) as there's so much going on. It really is quite an ambitious project for such a small studio. It would have been a good idea to release it a bit later and continue fixing some of the major bugs, possibly, but at the same time, it's going to go a lot faster with a lot of people reporting them as opposed to just their small team.

6k are like 5 enemies later on. it's nothing, don't worry too much about it. The most I lost were like 50k I think. At this point I die more to platforming sections and that's how I tend to lose them. Sometimes they respawn next to the breach you respawn at, not sure what causes it. Presumably areas you couldn't recover them from, but it wasn't always the case for me.

Hellpoint is a work of passion which tries to do more with a lot less. But its ambitious goals are also its downfall. The game was released with some nasty bugs and there are still a lot of issues to suffer through even after all the patching. This is truly a shame, because buried underneath hides a good game that needed a few more months of development.

Pros:
+ Massive world with an interconnected level design
+ Addictive sense of exploration
+ Good progression system
+ Slashy combat
Cons:
– Performance issues
– The camera and targeting system can go haywire
– Plenty of bugs
– Dated graphics
– Audio problems
I agree, the Architect's plan was for me to wait till the patching progress had reached its completion, but my puny spawn-like body just couldn't wait and I ended up getting addicted to it against my will.
There's indeed low-budget-y roughness going on in pretty much anything, a few aspects come off as underdeveloped and the difficulty isn't the fiercest (I found the bosses especially accessible, only the jumpy Puppet monkey made me sweat), but the game succeeded in evoking that nice sensation of getting immersed in a hostile unknown universe which is one of the most important aspects in the genre. A pleasant surprise as far as the Soulsian sub-species goes, its thickly eerie sci-fi atmosphere coupled with the great exploration throughout the big labyrinth-like levels and the responsive combat definitely rubbed me the right way
It took me ~15 hours to reach the ending, went in blind_mode as always and probably missed a ton of secrets, but I regret nothing(tm). Although it obviously doesn't reach the heights of the fathers and it definitely needs more polish, it is a pretty solid attempt in my opinion. The lore and subtle soundtrack were both intriguing as well. 7 Axions/10, hopefully we'll get to see a sequel someday with a bigger budget, more fleshed out mechanics and obscure places to explore.
