As my parents were on vacation I also bought them a new TV with basic smart apps and it also supports wireless screen mirroring... and as I don't really need the fire hd 8 (6th generation) I'd also give that to my dad, as he was looking for a tablet anyway. I'd love if they could just wirelessly stream from their phone to their TV, but the TV doesn't have the Amazon Fire App and the Tablet doesn't seem to support any sort of screen mirroring (except for second screen if you have a fire tv stick).
Can I somehow root the Fire HD 8, flash stock android and enable wireless screen mirroring that way?
If not possible, I'll just return the amazon tablet and get something cheap as replacement.. like http://www.mediamarkt.de/de/product/_odys-cosmo-win-32gb-gold-edition-2122694.html ? Seems to be OK? Win 10, 2GB RAM, Intel Atom .. this should allow for streaming/casting, right?

Screen mirroring is pretty bad and most of the time more then uncomfortable. In two years i used it like 3 Times to play Around with it and then never again.
The TV has already App Support, so use those for netflix, Amazon Video and so on.
Youtube should be there too and if you dont like the TV App, The Youtube App can also stream Videos with one click to the TV,atleast this works with my 3 year old Samsung Phone.
For other stuff just put a hdd on your TV.

Sammie SmartTVs don't have Twitch, and the way to enable it is very dated and doesn't work on newer firmwares. If you watch twitch streams (SC2 tourneys FTW) having Screen Mirroring is a blessing. Working fine here!

Yes, its just a guessing but i dont think his parents want to watch twitch.
Why doesnt it work with newer Firmwares? Is the developer Login gone? so you cant sync older Samsung Apps anymore on your TV?

Ok, am going to send the fire hd 8 back. Ordered a lenovo tab A10-30 for just 20€ more. It's 10", Lenovo (so I suppose it has a much better screen and sound), has 2GB RAM and supports screen mirroring out of the box
