I enjoyed Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones to the fullest. This game is the truest embodiment of H.P. Lovecraft’s source material into another medium. It’s because of this praiseworthy achievement that I feel so conflicted. I wholeheartedly want to recommend this game despite it being unfinished. It’s maybe selfishness that makes me say this, but I don’t think it’s fair for this sanity dripping journey to end halfway through.

Pros:
+ Maddening story
+ A compelling adaptation of Lovecraft’s short stories
+ Stunning visual style
+ Gameplay mechanics mixing detective work and RPG
+ Character progression
+ Replay value

Cons:
– Unfinished story
– The saving system is annoying and buggy
– The multitude of loading screens breaks the pacing
– Balance issues
– Poorly explained stats
– Bugs

Yeah. They need to show the computations and what some stats do. Like how does 'handling' affect my chances to hit and what not.

Really wish they can complete this. Abort the part after the witch house and instead send us off after the 3rd line of the poem.

And let those unending battles be winnable. Like in Waxface's basement. It seems like it's an endless wave, and I kept fighting thinking it would let me through. It can be doable if you block the entrance with corpses or characters and just leave a single slot open so it only spawns one mobster.

They could have at least included Waxface, or let us find you know who who was outside the theater in your dreams.

Oh I mean where he's hanging out in game haha. It's the only reason I had his wife in the party.

Also it seems party members you ask to leave the party just disappear so you can't recruit them again. Dunno if that was intended or a bug.

They are working on a game about Cthulhu while waiting for the publisher's approval for the sequel:

It's a shame that this wild beast got abandoned, I was patiently waiting for some sort of Definitive/Enhanced version..but alas. Still, might give it an inquisitive try in the future.
