I think SS2 has excellent atmosphere and backstory. Through the audio logs etc.

system shock 2 aged a lot better though IMO. I played through SS 1 just a few months back for the first time, and yeah it was fun, but it's clunky and outdated as well, and you really feel that they simply didn't have the tech yet to do what they wanted to do.

System shock 2, on the other hand, doesn't feel outdated at all to me.

I played through SS2 too some months ago. There are several graphic mods that make the game look pretty nice.

Other than the retarded animations, modded SS2 looks great even today.

Absolutely agree with all of this - the tech level is incomparable. I played SS2 recently for the first time all the way through (always gave up before) and didn't really feel the need to use mods. I just wish it was written better. The plot starts well enough, but that's all.

I wonder if this is a case where mostly only people who played the original will enjoy the enhanced re-release. I tried playing for an hour and can't get into it, it's way too archaic. Although it is interesting to see how far ahead of its time it was.

I guess that depends on when did those potential players start gaming - if e.g you've played games of the that era and are used to the graphics, you might enjoy the System Shock even if you haven't played it before. My first computer was a C64, but only around the time of the 386 PC did the games reach a certain level of graphics and depth in gameplay IMHO (for example, I can and still do play Jagged Alliance, Tie Fighter, Panzer General, F-14 Fleet Defender, etc.).

I hope GOG releases the Enemy Infestation. I never finished it and I couldn't get the copies found online to work on the modern systems.

Some weeks ago they updated the game and wait for it ... it is not longer a Dosbox-emulated version of the old game, it is a totally new engine, a proper source port with the usual bells and whistles, like high resolution, better controls etc.

They are still updating this new version of the game and it also supports modding.

EDIT: It even suppports old saves! Laughing

It was posted in the other thread some time ago. It is running on the Kex engine (Doom 64 EX, Turok EX, Forsaken EX, etc.)
