 point A, killkillkill --->point B = fps
Point A, kill or someother shit---> Point B collect or do some more boring repetitive shit aside from killkillkill----> back to point A or maybe even point C naaah were not that interesting we really mean back to Point A = RPG
 |
In RAGE's case it's more like: from town A do shit at Point B, then back to A to report - then go back to B again to do shit again, then back to A to report. Not done yet, because now you get to go to point B to do some shit, before you get to go back to point A once again. All done? Same process between A and C, rinse and repeat.

 RPG of course.

So just because it's got hubs it's an RPG? What was the first RPG you ever played? Because an RPG for me means *some* freedom in how you handle stuff, different ways to play your character. RAGE has neither. The fact that your mission is to collect an item rather than kill is not an argument, tons of shooters have missions like that.

What H_S said is correct: it is a shooter with some primitive RPG elements in the form of "quests" and "loot" (quotation marks for a reason). The "crafting" is another primitive element commonly found in a lot of RPGs, but the items you craft are only stuff you can get from vendors anyway. It is neither a 100% pure shooter, nor is it an RPG. It's something in between.

					| eh to me rpg is more about choosing how to develop your character and/or play style - some degree of uniqueness to how you choose to play the game and build yourself up.
i wouldnt even go so far as to say it was a shooter with rpg elements in it... mass effect 2 is a shooter with some rpg bits in it.. rage is purely a shooter, with some additional fluffing about included, thats it.

					| The Doom 3 source code has been released: https://github.com/TTimo/doom3.gpl
"Carmack's reverse" shadow technique has been excluded (replaced?) from the code, to avoid potential legal issues. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_volume#Depth_fail

  	  | Quote: | | Back End Rendering of Stencil Shadows: --------------------------------------

The Doom 3 GPL source code release does not include functionality enabling rendering
of stencil shadows via the “depth fail” method, a functionality commonly known as
 "Carmack's Reverse".

  	  | Carmack's tweets wrote: | | Lawyers are still skittish about the patent issue around "Carmack's reverse", so I am going to write some new code for the doom3 release.
@ID_AA_Carmack How exactly did you get around using Carmack's Reverse?

@RyanSpeets where it can't be shown the player is outside a shadow volume, I used the "preload" technique from kb.cnblogs.com/a/28036/

					| doom 3 source released? eh.. i guess you could do worse, but even a few years ago i decided i was bored enough to play DOOM 3 again and.... i don't know, it was all cheap tricks type stuff to scare you and.... it really looked uglier than i remembered too, i think i got caught up in hype on my first playthrough, or something.

					| More than Doom 4, what I'm really interested will be the audience's reaction on this year's quakecon to the "magnificent" job that iD did with the RAGE PC version...

Seems like those leaked "shots" really are legitimate. In that case; colour me impressed and interested -- and it looks like JB's earlier comparison is holding up quite nicely. Doom 3 was a reboot of the series, basically a retelling of Doom 1, so following that logic Doom 4 should be the equivalent of Doom 2, which was set on earth. The shots look great, let's just hope ID doesn't fuck about with Megatexture this time >_<

					| I completely agree, the shooting and physics in Doom 3 alpha were a lot more enjoyable than in the final version, so much that people even made mods to recreate the original experience: http://doom3.filefront.com/file/;83445 | |
