Yap it does have its flaws, has a standalone stealth game, its pretty dam good, as a SC game, it lacks a few things , but compared to conviction? This is a masterpiece..

Anyways i am replaying some missions atm from it on perfectionist..still enjoy it a lot.

I wish i could play double agent decently, but the pc versions is bugged to death..

yep, played on perfectionist, and non lethal full ghost mode, hence it took me 35ish hours. probably twice as long than any other SC game. its a fantastic game. and I can see myself replaying with weapons and murdering everyone next time Twisted Evil

As for double agent PC, that's why i rated it so low. there were quite a few bugs, the worst being the 2 out of the 3 parts in the second to last mission crash 90% of times on loading after getting spotted/killed, requiring a game restart... otherwise it would be above Pandora tommorow.

You liked Double Agent more than Chaos Theory?

Edit:
NVM, you meant the emulated stuff

yep, the ps2 emulated version of double agent is like chaos theory, but with even more variety, challenge, and great level design. Its a testament to how good the game is that I put up with pretty crappy emulation.

Chaos Theory is prettier and more polished, but it's a bit easier, which makes it only second best in my book. One big flaw of chaos theory is the ability to knock down baddies right next to their friends.

In Double agent old gen, you had to drag them outside their hearing range to put them to sleep, as their body would fall down loudly.

The bugs are in the game, not the crack. I have the original and it's one technical fail after another. A shit port.

I guess the 360 version of Double Agent is much better. Played both old and new and new is just improved on top of the old one, great SC title.

Blacklist, not Double Agent. It's a technical failure. But hey, I guess if you didn't have any issues, then no bugs exist whatsoever. Rolling Eyes

I'm pretty sure he was talking about crashes due to the latest crack, that's what I was referring to.

What bugs did you have with the legit version?

I have Cocklist since day 1 (unotplay version, not cracked) and I never had any crashes. Yes I have the starting windowed "problem" but the game doesn't crash when I use alt enter to maximize. I don't remember having any issues at all, fps drops or crashes or anything.

If by "great" you mean "dumbed down, brightened up so that you don't even need NVG and buggy", then sure.

I dunno, there were 0 forced combat scenes, night missions were very dark. my problem with double agent next gen were bugs and lack of content. it really felt unfinished.

the only thing removed was the sound meter, and it didn't really dumb down the game. wish they used the same hacking minigame as the oldgen as well.

I wouldn't go as far as harry_theone, saying it improved on the old gen version, but it was still a very decent Splinter Cell game.

Hurrdurrface? LOL you seem to be quite hurt by my opinion Laughing Better go do something else you derp, go abuse some more facepalm to undermine your weak 'argument'. Because that screen is totally summing up the game! Rolling Eyes

How about the binary visibility system? You could be crouching 1m away from a guard, but you were safe as long as that gizmo on Sam's back was glowing green. But it took just one small step for the meter to go yellow and suddenly you were visible from miles away.
In all previous SC games visibility worked as a smooth drop, not a sudden cliff.

Quote:
night missions were very dark

Were they? I must've had my gamma all the way up then, cause I could easily see through every shadow without night vision.
Btw, WHAT night missions?
The one on Iceland
,
Shanghai

or the short bonus mission?

you are right, I forgot the change in the stealth meter. Although I don't feel that changed the game for the worse. stealth was still good. In my experience, in the earlier games, the gradual stealth meter wasn't really used at all, it was always really about invisible or visible, the in between was just guards thinking they saw something, which in double agent was replaced by time of exposure to yellow, so in practice it really was the same.

And yeah, not enough dark levels. the old gen version did a lot better there, and that comes back to my complaint for the lack of content.

You can see my shots in the screenshot thread from last week when I played double agent. I think the darkness looked better than the ones you posted.

Its not the pinnacle of the series, but outside of bugs, I was not disappointed with the game as I thought I would be, considering the feedback I read. It was still very much a splinter cell game. it was just rushed and had too few levels.

Yes, compared to Conviction, it is "OK", but what is that saying exactly? Laughing Even compared to the original, DA is garbage. I haven't played the old gen one, so no idea how that is.

The old gen DA i would say is only slightly worse than CT. I really liked the whole multiple ending angle and a more focused narrative, the gameplay is solid apart from some day missions.

My rating would be something like:

1.Chaos Theory
2.Blacklist
3.Double Agent (old gen)
4.Splinter Cell
5.Pandora Tomorrow
6.Conviction

Conviction co-op is quite nice though - much better than the single-player game

That's mostly because you have lulz with your mates, not because the game is any better. Any shit in coop is "improved" tenfold, even if just because of the giggles. Me and Neon had a lot of those with Constipation.

How do you place pandora tommorow last, considering what you said about conviction and blacklist? its basically an expansion pack to splinter cell 1.

No, the bugs I am talking about are the crack only. Specifically in the latest (1.03? Can't remember) version. It's a well known issue and as best as I can remember, goes away if you go back to 1.02. Mainly it's a crash to desktop issue. I didn't experience any of the other bugs you described.

I can't speak for the non-yarrrr version because, as I said, I'm not buying uplay games.

I never had a single crash in blacklist to be honest, game ran 60 fps locked all the time, well optimized as far as i can see, i played it with this current setup and with an ancient build with a 9600gt and a dual core, never crashed there either.

But you should have left one or two for the future, since Sam doesn't seem to be coming anytime soon. :< Ubi weren't too happy with Blacklist's numbers as far as I remember, they wanted at least three billion of units to be sold and got only 2 million instead. Though there's still a chance that he'll be back re-re-rebooted, darkier, sexier, pantherer™ for a larger audience now including housewives and gamers over 80.

If I had to rate them, my results would be similar to yours, only with Chaos Theory that would get the cake, followed by the emulated Double Agent, the first Sam, Pandora Tomorrow, Blacklist and the One Agent and a Half version that we got on PC. Conviction doesn't even belong here because otherwise Gears of War should qualify as well.

Sucks to hear they weren't happy with blacklist sales. I'd settle for that kind of splinter cell just to even have more of it, since chances of chaos theory/double agent old gen goodness in this day and age, seems unlikely from ubisoft. Sad
