I cringe every time i see these "can you get the highest score DLC's" for such a fantastic game... they could have made a proper story DLC by now Crying or Very sad

A story DLC takes time and time means money. Why do that when you can release multiple shithouse DLC's in the same timeframe and make even more money.

For the most part it's not about quality these days, it's about quantity. It's a shame cause it's definately one of the better games we've seen lately.

I am of the opinion that the game was needlessly long that it doesn't need any more story DLC. They should make Alien Isolation 2 and offer something "completely" new instead.

Glad they made it first person at the end. Much more claustrophobic and tense.

Thank god third person wasn't the final concept Very Happy

Though I wouldn't be opposed to it being an option, or maybe an unlockable mode after beating the game once.

Indeed, everything went better than expected^^
The biggest problem with the third person view in a game like this, is that you're basically "cheating", since you can observe and analyze the level and the beast's movements with zero efforts. Me no likey, I want to suffer every time I poke my head out of the cover! Very Happy Laughing

How many different DLC characters have survived the Alien by now?

This Alien is on its way to becoming the most incompetent Alien in the history of its species.

I thought they were new characters created for DLC.

I haven't even bothered pirating them so I don't know for sure.

They are all challenge maps, adding a little bit of additional story as you finish the various objectives and you get to play as some new characters with their own starting set of equipment but it's not going to be on par with what the main game offers though Creative Assembly has tried to spice things up a bit with varying objectives for the various DLC packs and also some new areas although I am fairly certain most of these maps borrow a lot from the existing areas in the core game.

If you could get them in a special bundle it might be worth it if you enjoyed the challenge mode but otherwise I don't think it would be worth the cost.

(The earlier pre-order exclusive content did add two locations from the first movie I think it was so that might be a bit more interesting but they are still just challenge mode levels.)

Doesn't look like Sega will make a sequel or if they make one that they won't attempt to make it more commercial.

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2015-09-30-sega-europe-were-definitely-on-the-right-track

Quote:
"2.1 million sales? It just didn't break out," Heaton explains. "Am I happy about that? I'm not happy about that, right. I think it did under-index in America. I think the genre just didn't shine with an audience that would let us break out. 2 million is fine, right - let's be clear - but we were unsure right till the very end about whether we would hit that break out space or not.

"Making a AAA console game is bloody hard. We absolutely sweated blood for that game, we came through, and felt really happy at the end of it.

"Alien: Isolation 2 is not out of the question, because we're so proud of it and there's possibly more to be said. But do we really want to be spending very significant amounts of money, and getting close to break-even or just about in the black? That's not where Sega wants to be, when we have a brilliant portfolio of other games that do great business."

Sega Reaction

I expected it. Now is the era of morons and games made for morons, so games like this one is a rare treat, they don't sell well. Laughing

Alien Isolation is an interesting case, I say. Plenty of great reviews and positive opinions, but "low" sales.

Something went wrong, someplace.

Some commentary (from May): http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2015-05-11-sega-laments-weak-game-sales-even-as-hard-numbers-rise

It was in development for more than 3 years (thus big budget) and it sold many of its copies for discounted prices (thus lower than perceived profit).

Quote:
To that point, Alien: Isolation's sales figures included both physical and digital sales, and yet The Creative Assembly's well regarded AAA project managed only 2.1 million units by the end of March, 2015. Alien: Isolation was in development for more than three years, so that is a relatively poor return on what was no doubt a large investment.

And not all of those units were sold at full price, either. SteamSpy puts the game's owners at around 440,000, but it has been available for as little as £7.99 or $12.49 within the recorded period.

Most definitely. It's because I felt like one while I was playing it (that is before I got the silly flamethrower Razz ) unlike that certain SE game Razz

@blackeyedboy

That is easy.. The intelligence of the planet is constant, and the population is growing.Troll Face COD crowd is much larger than the ones who can appreciate a proper quality game.. Most festival films also get great reviews and positive feedback but they do not sell "well".

That's a shame. maybe if they hadn't thrown money at Gearbox to do whatever the fuck they wanted then 2 million sales might have been enough.
