Any idea if I'll be able to do an upgrade install with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 BIE? I'm using Vista Ultimate 64 with Vista loader, do I need to uninstall the old bios emulation before installing Windows 7 and Windows 7 loader?

Well, I don't remember doing that, and had no problems with the upgrade, so you'll be probably safe to install 7 on top of the previous loader.

Ungh, having issues with 7, can't get into it anymore because it's complaining about missing files for my user (which coincidentally is the only user). It happened after 7 just completely froze during playback of an MKV. After the reboot it took like 10 minutes to start and now I can't get into it.
So I burned a rescue CD and that won't fucking work either, it keeps telling me there's a problem with one of my removable drives (such as USB-drive) except I don't have any. And there's no rescue-option on the install drive like with XP. =S
Annoying as hell, as all my drives are passing the fitness tests.
I also think fisk should be unbanned.

XP repair is similar to an upgrade install in Vista and 7. BTW, what are the files that missing?

Naw, I mean eg. the rescue console where you could expand the files from the i386-binaries to replace them.
It seems to be missing a bunch of files in C:\USERS\ apparently particular to the admin account (my main account). And now when it loaded it looked like old Windows Classic and I couldn't click any menus.
Guess it's clean reinstall and remember to make backups with W7. =/

Have you tried System Restore? BTW, there is no more the limited recovery console. This time, when you boot with the DVD you can go with a full fledged CMD.

How? I boot the dvd and it wants me to install again. I could find no option for a recovery console.
edit: I can't access system restore, or I would've tried. It keeps complaining about missing files and throwing me to a desktop which gives me error messages when I try to open the start menu about missing files in c:\users\
edit 2: Hmm, I guess the files in C:\users can't be recreated since they are login/desktop details that windows creates upon install.

When you start the setup, you can select recovery options, which will present the following menu (Vista and 7):
You can select Command Prompt, which will display a CMD for your enjoyment. But it sounds like something went FUBAR. I would try to "upgrade" the installation with a new 7 installation to have all the settings saved.

Is the BIE version the same version of Windows 7 that will be released on the 20th?

Thanks iNatan! That did it. I can now boot again, but I've already had a freeze once more. I think what happened was that the computer was writing data to the c-drive as it froze and probably corrupted the files.
Now it remains to see what the hell is causing the freezes. Back in the day this happened when there was IRQ-collisions. But that shouldn't happen today. RAM-fitness test passed, and the voltages are OK.
Ungh, computers can be such bitches when they start acting up.
I also think fisk should be unbanned.

Cheers!
As for freezes, I would suggest checking if the CPU isn't overheating (and I don't mean checking temperatures in the BIOS after a freeze). Install Speedfan and put the CPU on some heavy task. That was my problem a few years back, and a Zalman heatsink fixed the trouble.

Hmm... you might be onto something, because when my computer freezes it's when I'm watching high-def video, or playing games. Although I felt the heatsink right now when it froze and I could touch it, so it shouldn't be all that hot.
Maybe it's the graphics card? I still got the standard cooler on my 4870.

Actually if the cooler is not hot it might indicate that it doesn't transfer heat efficiently enough because it's not seated well. I would check if it's connected well just to be sure.

Yep, the heatsink's heat is not a good indicator (I remember doing the same). Also, unless watching videos with DXVA, which uses the GPU to decode video, everything is done on the CPU, and the GPU is hardly stressed (not more than, say, when rendering the idle desktop).

CPU is not stresse when playing 1080 res videos? Mine sure is.
As for the heatsink not properly transfering heat, it would be really weird cause I've not had problems like that before (about a year since I got it and I've been building computers for ten years).
It's got Quicksilver IV on it, and the heatsink is decent (Coolermaster, not top of the line but surely efficient enough). Haven't clocked the CPU either.
I guess I'll try reattaching it and putting a new layer of thermal paste on.
I also think fisk should be unbanned.

The GPU is hardly stressed, of course the CPU is.
When putting a new layer of paste, remember to scrape the old one.

Well I've had W7 installed for a few days now, I've had a few minor issues like 'Display Driver Stopped Responding and Has Recovered' which has now been resolved and I'm quite impressed with the OS so far. It's very smooth, although there seems to be an obsession with not having desktop icons which doesn't work for me.
Playing around with the speech recognition was kind of fun, although there is still a long long way to go until it's the finished product.
The only thnig that bothers me is having the keys blacklisted.

I don't recommend using these BIE releases with included updates. Better get untouched Microsoft iso and use loader of your choice after install.
There are a few advantages in doing so. BIE releases aren't perfect, I had lots of problems with their releases for Vista, at first it looks like everything is working nice and dandy, but after awhile weird shit starts to happen, such as computers boot up halting and so on. It was driving me nuts, but once I installed Vista from untouched all these issues went away. I know there are many people who don't have issues with BIE releases but why risk it?
Also using untouched iso doesn't install some crappy outdated loader version and you can use any loader you want, and when you use loader you are familiar with it's easy to remove or update it etc.
At the end it's your choice, but I just wanted to share my experience with crappy BIE OS releases.

I see that there's a "Microsoft.Windows.7.ULTIMATE.x64.OEM.DVD-BIE.iso" released and a 1.7 loader. I'm a bit unsure if I should get it cause I really don't want the mofo to be shut down later due to blacklisted keys etc. However I've already bought a legit version of vista ultimate (like a two years ago) and I don't feel like cramming any more money down MS's throat.
What's the real difference between this and an untouched win7 iso? o.O

It it's shut down because of blacklisted keys, you just have to go into safe mode, and run "slmgr.vbs -rearm" in a console with administrative rights. Then just apply a new loader.

Guess I'll be installing this as soon as I get my hands on it, which looks like a day or so due to my horrendous speed.

I have tried to install XPSP3 via VmWare on my and friends computer, and both for me and for him installation got stuck somewhere in the middle. He has virtualization capable CPU, I obviously don't have.
I've even tried to run it in compatibility mode, but no go
So anybody has the same problem?

There is no problem installing XP in VMWare, I installed 2000, XP and Vista the other day to test something. Try VirtualBox, it's free.

Both VMWARE and Virtualbox work fine. I prefer Virtualbox, also you don't *need* hardware virtualization, it can use software virtualization, too.

I've tried, with both ISO image and CD, and it just stuck I'll try VirtualBox...
