I remember signing up for the beta maybe a year ago, it looked like the sketchiest f2p shit ever and I guess it was.

He's been working on this for 7 years after leaving valve to create it. Talk about bad career decision. I guess next course of action is to kickstart something

7 years of work solely wasted on a single MP-only game?!?

No wonder this game sucked. The so called creator of CS admits he stopped playing/developing CS in 2000 Laughing He doesn't even know what surf maps are! Laughing

Until one day he had the idea of a "CS2" but due to the amount of changes it would make Valve weren't happy with the direction and he decided to part ways and make it on his own.. Voila Tactical Intervention.

To be honest, I never really got into the E-Sports scene that much. My time with counter-strike was mainly spent playing on public servers with some of my mates. Having seen the E-Sports community evolve around CS is really amazing though when I set out to design CS, it was never the goal to make it an E-Sports game. I guess it evolved naturally through the hard work of others who saw the potential to make it an E-sport game.

Quote:
Did you mean for surfing to be a legitimate function within the game?

which game? CS or TI? I'm not aware of this "surfing" of which you speak of ..

surfing is a mod combine a few physics engine mechanics in CS

oh, interesting.. I've never heard of it until now. I stopped playing CS after CS 1.0

Quote:
Hi Scypher, I was actually not involved in CS after 1.0. So I can't really comment on the changes that occurred after 1.0 as I was busy working on other stuff at Valve. TBH, I felt the game had reached its course in terms of features and functionality after CS 1.5 and I wasn't really keen on stirring the pot. I was too busy trying to R&D a new CS project that would have new features and gameplay that I didn't get the chance to add to CS 1.0

Quote:
1). I didn't follow the competitive scene much at all.. It really is a full time job developing a game and finding time to even play it is a challenge. Keeping up with the competitive scene can be a full time job in and of itself.

2) I wasn't involved in the map development of CS at all. If I rememer correctly, the most I ever did was tell David Johnston (the guy behind de_dust) that his map was too yellow.. thank god he ignored my suggestion. I liked cs_siege / cs_facility / cs_assault / de_dust / cs_747

Sad Those are some of my favourite maps, only ones missing are Aztec and Office. I couldn't even begin to tell you how many hours my flatmate and a dozen other friends all played on Assault/Office/Italy/Militia Very Happy

Never started, the only times I tried it was during free weekend, bunch of pro players, no fun at all.

wat

You're talking about Source, which is an entirely different game. To my knowledge CS has never had any free weekends and to anyone who got HL before CS was sold separately on Steam got CS with it. Both of my accounts have CS on it anyway and I never bought CS at retail, always played the mod. I'm not sure if HL now includes CS still though.

@ Sabin: siege, facility, 747 are so horrible Laughing
Assault had its moments in public play, competitively speaking it's still utter shite.

That's the problem; I don't play competitively Wink eSports aren't my thing, I just play to enjoy myself, and the huge LAN parties we used to have were just that; fun and enjoyment. Not competitive stuff aside from the usual trashtalk and stuff Very Happy

Damn, can't even remember when they removed facility. I liked the whole hostage rescue thing. I also enjoyed the escape maps and the VIP maps. Those were fun with the right teammates. Boner alert if you were able to collect an AWP as a ct on a vip map. Anyone remembering jeepathon? Smile

Which is not what any of this refers to. You really can't compare those to the original CS Smile

CSS never took off the way CS did, CSGO is taking over both communities now though. That's because rather than being Call of CS (which is what CSS feels like for a large part for a CS player) it sits somewhere in the middle now that it's been patched up a bit. It stills feels a little floaty compared to the original, but better than damn CSS Neutral

That's also where the annoying CSS community comes from. It's just a lot easier to get into and people get a sense of "I'M AWESOME" much quicker than they should.

No I know that, but those maps were still horrible in every regard Very Happy

Aztec was great though, office was fun for the carnage. Dust 2, in all its simplicity, always remained an amusing map as well. My favourites will always be Inferno and Nuke though, they were so good Very Happy

Edit: obviously I did play it competitively, which might be where my love of those 2 maps comes from. The layout is just great for mind games and rushing, which was my playstyle (and still is if you look at how I play in BF3, which is the first MP game since Q3 and CS which *really* grabbed me).

the company operating the us license terminated the license, so no more of this game in the usa. Gooseman really fucked up, he had a golden ticket with valve, but no he wanted to shoot dogs and use human shields ... and ended up back in his moms basement for many years, where he will end up again soon. to much weed if you ask me ...

Haha! For me, the only reason 747 was so bad was the that the AI could see/shoot through the curtains and you couldn't. It was fun if ALL humans were playing, but adding any bots just ruined it.

don't know how this intends to compete with the "recent" release of csgo. Call cs what you will but I started in beta 0.6 and it's still the game I spend the most time on today (cs, CSS, csgo). for the older posts that hated on siege, I loved that map. The older players will remember the APC you could drive in it, everyone would jump in the back but it could glitch and sink into the ground killing everyone. if you ever saw the sky appear out the back door it meant everyone out and if you didn't get out you died.

I gave this a shot, it's an amatureish poor man's CS without the recoil that takes practice to control and microtransactions.

Hello everyone,

With great sadness, I must inform you that Tactical Intervention is shutting down.

It’s been a wild and crazy ride over the past 8 years. We suspected this was coming, but held out for as long as possible. The past two years haven’t gone as planned. Even with all the many updates our player numbers haven’t bounced back and the game has become unable to sustain itself.

As most of you will know, running the infrastructure for a video game requires a lot of effort - both in terms of manpower, and in terms of finances.

While we were always able to find enough support among you guys - designers, admins and community leaders, the lack of revenue has lead us into an impossible situation.

Our surprisingly patient European server hosts eventually saw no other option than shutting down our servers, a blow from which we cannot recover from.

That being said: never say never again, and maybe there will be a comeback one day in a different shape; we have never lost our passion for this game and our confidence in its potential.

However, for the time being we can't see a way out of our own private financial crisis.

Again, thanks everyone for having made TI the blast that it's been - take care wherever you are!
