That's why it sounds so awesome.
Anyway. I need some help with steam link.
So I got it working and all but I want the controller dongle to be connected to pc and not to link.
Also, does it stream all the time when steam is on? It even streams without big picture.
If I just want it to stream when I want to, how to do it ?
Because if it's streaming all the time even when TV is off, isnt that waste of resources ?
I mean, the sound is coming from tv right now. What is going on it streams all the time
edit: Ok I see.
Without big picture, it still streams with steam on but framerate is worse than minimized big picture.
If I want to stop streaming, I can have steam enabled but need to click "stop streming"
If I want to start streaming, I need to do it from link.
If I want to use controller on link, start it with holding "x"
If I want to use controller with dongle in pc, start it by holding "a"
edit:
The fuck am I doing playing doom midi music with steam controller motors.
That's not why I got this thing

I've noticed that steam link is capped at 30fps when big picture is minimized and I am just looking at desktop.
Noticed it when watching agdq in chrome.
on pc its 60fps stream video and on link its 30.
It's ok and fine as media player classic home cinema don't need more but it's kinda weird. is there a way around it?
I bet it has something to do with rendering of big picture overlay
edit: whatever. Tried again and now it's 60 fps. (measuring with steam link stats)
Binding of isaac is 55fps for some reason, Timeshift at 4k ->1080p is streaming full 60 though. And after playing that for a while, desktop with big picture minimized is also 60.
edit2: anyway, I think this thing is not getting it's rep. It's magic and cheap one at that. It costs so little while those shitty hdmi wifi receivers are so expensive.
It's kinda weird move on valve side to only market it for steam only. You must have steam installed and running in big picture if You want to configure this stuff.
edit3:
I know why it's streaming desktop in 30fps and sometimes in 60fps... I mean I don't but:
When I just run big picture(it's 60fps) and minimize, then desktop is 30fps.
If I run a game like Timeshift, quit it and then minimize Big picture, it's 60.

will be intersting to see if steamos picks up "steam" from the steamdeck rls, would be asesome to see it becoming the major os for gaming pc, although they'd need advanced stuff like directstorage and other stuff nowadays.
even their faq is still outdated, they still mention steam machines.
https://store.steampowered.com/steamos/
So, what is SteamOS?
SteamOS is a public release of our Linux-based operating system. The base system draws from Debian 8, code named Debian Jessie. Our work builds on top of the solid Debian core and optimizes it for a living room experience. Most of all, it is an open Linux platform that leaves you in full control. You can take charge of your system and install new software or content as you want.
So, what is it not?
We expect most SteamOS users to get SteamOS preinstalled on a Steam Machine. Although we have made SteamOS freely available for anybody to install, the installation experience is not intended for a non-technical user.
Most importantly, SteamOS only supports a certain set of hardware (you can read more in our FAQ). We will add support for newer hardware over time, but we have no plans to add more support for older hardware.
Users should not consider SteamOS as a replacement for their desktop operating system. SteamOS is being designed and optimized for the living room experience.
