finished it, took me a little more than 10h and something around 1000 deaths (cannot check after it's finished). A truly magnificent game, one of the best platformers I've played
It'll be available on March 11th for Xbox One, Windows 10 and STEAM. And if you already bought the original version of Ori and the Blind Forest on any platform, you'll be able to buy this version for a small upgrade fee.
To clear up why there's a DE exactly a year after the original release, it's simple: We god tons of mails about making DLC. So we thought that might be a cool option, but Ori being a Metroidvania, it didn't feel right to just add more levels in a separate menu item. No, instead we thought it'd be great to enhance the world, add more abilities and story and add the new DLC content directly within the world you've already played through. Because of that, you can play through the game in new ways, since you'll gain new abilities and extras that you can then make use of in the rest of the game - We felt that that was a much better way of doing DLC than just making a separate pack with more stuff that wasn't connected to the original game in any way
I'm excited we're getting so close and that you guys can check out what we did - We just also put almost an hour of making of content into the game, so for people who're excited to learn more about our prototyping process, ideas we had, etc., there's just a lot of stuff in there
is just my assumption... whenever a developer says 'small fee', their idea of small fee is never the same as mine, so im expecting them to milk the DE for as much as they can... 20-25 bucks for full thing, 15 for upgrade, wouldnt surprise me.
Current owners of Ori and the Blind Forest can upgrade to the Definitive Edition for $4.99, while all new players can pick up the full game for $19.99, which includes the original Ori.
We also wanted to provide an update about the release of the definitive edition on Steam and Windows 10. Yes, we did announce a release date of March 11th. But to make sure everyone who plays Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition gets a great experience regardless of platform, we’re taking a bit of extra time with the Windows Store and Steam versions. We will launch the Xbox One version on March 11, and will update you soon on when the other versions will launch. We can’t wait to get the final game in the hands of players and see their reaction!
NEW IN THE DEFINITIVE EDITION
• Packed with new and additional content: New areas, new secrets, new abilities, more story sequences, multiple difficulty modes, full backtracking support and much more!
• Discover Naru’s past in two brand new environments.
• Master two powerful new abilities – Dash and Light Burst.
• Find new secret areas and explore Nibel faster by teleporting between Spirit Wells.
Yeah that's always a thing with re-releases like these, it's not a full remaster either (Although it's now using a more recent Unity engine version.) and if you've already played through the game the extra content (And free extras soundtrack.) might not be that attractive though a 75% discount is nice but it's not a free update as other developers have done, then again some have re-released at full price too. (I'd like to see what else these developers can create so a fiver wasn't too bad a price but other people will have different opinions of course plus there's the delayed release because of the MS XBO exclusivity period.)
looking at the price , they definitely got better definitive edition deal with MS than the state of decay guys did
But, as always, it's still Microsoft who are to blame at the end of it. MS fucked everyone with SoD "upgrade" and now they're fucking everyone again with Ori "upgrade" - MS just simply cannot stop fucking with PC gamers, which is exactly why their attempt at snatching dominance with Win10 store is so revolting.
.... still, you are right, this is a better upgrade deal than SoD one. This one actually has content with it. How long does the ransom last, though? A week like SoD? Or is the "£5 upgrade path" option permanent?

not only in content the upgrade price is better aswell ( upgrade vs full price ... iirc SoD was almost full price, this is 25%)
Yeah a 75% discount, heh someone on the Steam community forums commented on how it might be possible for existing owners to now buy multiple copies and sell them for profit.
EDIT: Oh and yeah you get both Ori and Ori DE with it if you want to try the old version or maybe complete that first as save progress won't carry over.
(Or well they'll keep the existing version available and buying DE now gives access to both of them.)

I thought about that too, but purchase as gift button is greyed out...
