Right now it's all about battle-royale and loot crates...
L4D3 - huge map where you scavenge guns and equipment while trying to survive zombies and get to a random safehouse where you might find a box (more loot boxes if you pay) with random cosmetic item. Do you want to stay together and increase survival chances? Or do you want to take all the cosmetic for yourself? Just image the possibilities!
You'd think they would want to push that game along with Half Life 3 out the door. They are guaranteed profits for the game makers after all. Perhaps they plan to leave it for so long that all the original gamers' have moved on, got married, stop gaming, died.. and all that's left is a totally new audience that only knows the games through old folk talking about the good old days and how they don't make games like they used too..
