Haha, such an absolute shitshow. I'm "lucky" that in this particular case I can observe the drama without being emotionally affected (not a fan of Blizzard's titles in general) but still, it is both sad and unintentionally amusing
Not surprising though, just yet another chapter added to the Corporate Greed anthology, vol XVII, 'How to leave your dignity behind and scrape the bottom of the barrel without feeling any guilt'.

Well, I did get D3 when it was free through some complicated VPN amazon reward method and I wasn't amused, so no emotional distress for me as well. HOWEVER, I'm a big StarCraft fan since SC1, hell, I did even play WarCraft 2 in floppy disks before SC was released! And it hurts to see Blizzard going down the drainer.
I guess it's the sign o' the times.

I wouldn't say Blizzard is going down the drain. While D3 was a shitshow at launch, and it only got marginally better when they finally got rid of the RMAH, it's not like their track record so far has been one disaster after another.
Only thing they did wrong here (horribly horribly wrong) was to announce a Diablo game at Blizzcon with so much pomp and fanfare. If they'd done it quietly as a sort of: "Hey, a small part of our devs had been working on the title for a while now" at any time other than at Blizzcon, nobody would have given a shit.

Blizzard are either dumb or super clever with that move announcing it at Blizzcon. Dumb because they did in front of their biggest PC crowd but also smart because now they made massive marketing and too many people are talking about this. Ye, it may be in a bad light but this will certainly attract a lot of other non-PC fans who will be interested what this is about. Add to this the Blizz fanbois who will buy whatever Blizz releases and that there isn't a beyond decent Diablo-like game for phones and it will most probably be a big success. Not to forget the in-game-purchases that too many dumb folks with money drool over.

Thanks! That's some quality journalism (I guess I can call it that) if not a bit edgy at times. But this is the best article I read about this whole fiasco.

indeed, among the bashing he does raise some interesting questions, the one that I found most interesting is:
give us the names in the team developed this mobile crap

he tells it very clearly
most of the time I get together with my old PVP guild folks, we talk about how Tanaris was full with skeletons, and outdoor pvp, and how our guild was infamous among the Alliance and how their main PVP guild was infamous among the Horde, and how we fough each other wherever we saw one another, and how big pvp battles got
now:
you cannot become infamous - because of sharding you may never see someone you killed again
you cannot fight other guilds - because of sharding
they pretty much killed outdoor pvp
also killed any incentive of doing pvp - all gear and leveling is equal
it all began with rating matched arena
I would go into an arena and fight very intensely for 40min to get +2 to my 2000 rating..
so at some point I just gave up - it was too intense for a too little reward

8Let's face it: all major devs and publishers are a lost cause. I've always laughed off people saying "gaming is dying!" but AAA gaming is definitely dying - it has been for a few years now. We either get rehashed crap with minor changes, monetized-to-death games or cheaply made indie games.
Valve quit making decent games, Bioware is a shambles, Blizzard haven't made a decent game in years except for Overwatch which was pretty much TF2 reimagined (I remember it getting slammed when trailers appeared) and Bethesda ... Fallout 76 says it all. You still got Rockstar and CD Project Red but they both take many years to create their games.

Don't jinx it man. Some bigwig at Take 2 probably just got the idea for a new Rockstar game every year that utilizes the mobile space to make even more money.
Thanks a lot.

Blizzard is so out of touch, it's comical.
They are hiring a studio that was openly stealing their IP to make games for mobiles to look like Diablo... to make a Diablo game...
What the fuck did they expect lol?

China money. That’s the whole point of this announcement—winking to the Chinese gaming market. Just like in Hollywood cinema, it look pathetic, but they do it because it works. What is comical here is that they didn’t expect (or worse, didn’t prepare after expecting) the reaction of an actual gaming crowd, not China “gamers”.
