VR would make so much sense for a game like this. Doubtful it would win me over without it.

It's been an extra-long gestation alright, I remember at least a couple of Kickstarter campaigns and the game that was supposed to be split into two parts until eventually, they made up their minds and got some sweet Softdollars as well in the process. Honestly, my expectations are pretty low at this point but a man can hope

Reviews down to Mixed on Steam.
Quote from a review:
"Nothing is explained about this world whatsoever and to say this game has "environmental storytelling" is a joke. The game sets up all these questions about how all these people died and what went wrong and NEVER answers them. It feels like they had to cut allot of what was planned for whatever reason."

TBH if you love Giger as I do, you will enjoy it as a walk through Giger-like art gallery. But so far it's walking sim with some puzzles and not much going on.
And comparing it to Agony it's a detrimental to Scorn. It's biopunk and body horror and not "look vagina demon".

Not saying it objectively. More subjectively just to me is all I meant: Take away the graphic appeal to a specific audience (be it perverse macabre, or gritty macabre) and both boils down to a museum walk with complicated doorknobs to get to the other galleys.
Not diminishing those that enjoy it, or belittling it. I guess both has the same lack of appeal to me that both seem a situation of if you dont simply enjoy seeing it as the experience, there is no game.

@DXWarlock
Don't worry I agree with most what you say. I was just comparing artstyle, which in Agony for me was bloody stool hell.
But, yeah so far it's what you said - a museum walk with locked galleries. There isn't even much in terms of exploration and lore with invisible walls everywhere. I will probably play it to the end but wouldn't recommend it to anyone who wants something more than art over substance.

Agreed and i just finished it. It gives you literally nothing at all. There will be tons of speculation out there, but that will be all it'll be. Some puzzles were fun, but it wasn't just a walking sim. It's as much of a walking sim as Alien Isolation. You have your guns and monsters to avoid.
I loved the design. It's macabre and it's fantastic. There isn't much of this anymore so it's a welcome sight.
One critique would be that there wasn't much creepy stuff except for the beginning and the end. Rest was corridor shooter with some puzzles here and there.

Yea, I think that's the absolute best description for this... 'game'.
@Stormwolf
Alien Isolation has world building, progression, fear, an excellent gameplay loop. This game has none of that... just an art gallery.

It's a shame because one can tell that multiple visions and ideas were presented, but none of them could emerge from the slimy Gigerian blob thus leading to a simplistic undercooked hodgepodge. I would have actually loved if the game was structured as a Myst-like clone with non-linear design, intricate puzzles and no combat, which is what the first area tries to do (not very successfully, though it's the part that I liked the most).
Thing is, such a formula would have required efforts from the devs and at the same time it would have been too hardcore for the console/Gamepass audience, hence the streamlinization to a more corridor-like design as well as the implementation of some exceptionally lousy combat, which feels tacked on and not scary in the slightest. Moreover, the "show don't tell" type of narrative works when there is interesting lore involved, and that's not the case here. A missed opportunity, though it doesn't come as a surprise. *unintelligible blubbering noises*

It isn't THAT hard to create a story / world.
Even Agony - in the deepest HELL - had a bloody story stuck in it. You would have an antagonist, letters within the game-world that would hint at reasons of why, when, what in the hell is happening.
- Hey, we got a tremendous talented visual artist!
- Cool, let's make a videogame!
- But what about gameplay, mechanics, story?!
- Fuck those man, all style - no substance, all the way through!

I was solely talking about the gameplay. It has shooting and mechanics. The story is severely lackinh as people say. You get nothing whatsoever.

'a walk through Giger-like art gallery' is a very apt description. Awesome art style, everything else is disappointing.
*JC Denton voice* What a shame.

Yeah, but you agree that 'more than a walking sim' is far from enough...
'The Vanishing of Ethan Carter' was a good walking sim and a MUCH better game than this.
So the 'walking sim' label is not necessarily a mark for lack of quality...

Whenever I read things like this, I just assume that means they lacked the funds/staff/technology to do cutscenes. Good job PR guys.
